Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to LaToya Cook-Bradley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
LaToya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How has Covid changed your business model?
We went from a catering company to providing space for people to meet, breath and be able to hold conversations.
LaToya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, good people. I’m LaToya Cook- Bradley and I own Brew & Sip Coffee Bar which is not your ordinary coffee shop. We specialize in educating our customers on espresso-based beverages and feeding them amazing eats and treats. Brew & Sip provides a safe space for intimate meetings, conversations or just a great atmosphere to hang out and have lunch. Providing a space to work in, away from home for our work at home clients. We feed people amazing food that makes you want to take another bite. We continue to educate individuals and provide space for coffee connoisseurs, foodies, and tea enthusiasts to have engaging conversations. We strive to give the best customer service while filling your caffeine needs. Stop by 3800 Shepherdsville Rd. or 505 West Broadway and order a 20 oz Sugar Cookie latte and a smoked chicken salad sandwich. Brew & Sip, where you get your drip.
Brew & Sip Coffee Bar is a lifestyle change from the catering company the owner operated prior to 2019. Brew & Sip just celebrated its 2nd year in business as well as opening a second location. Creating a centrally located safe space for individuals to create, conversate and work right in the heart of the city.
Brew & Sip currently has two locations; our original location is at 3800 Shepherdsville Rd and our second location is at 505 W Broadway in Louisville, KY. The original location at 3802 Shepherdsville Rd is still used for catering. Brew & Sip currently employs six full-time employees.
They are currently serving up delicious espresso-based drinks, their signature smoked chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and refreshing signature teas. Try a “white lemonade” or “hibiscus tea”. They make soups in-house, and everything is made with love and comes with free smiles.
Brew & Sip Coffee Bar uses as many locally sourced ingredients as possible to make a variety of tantalizing sandwiches and meals, while serving customers with speed and great customer service. The menu rotates seasonally and gives culinary options for our growing number of customers. Each location will have signature items. These are generally influenced by the neighborhood in which they are located
Have you ever had to pivot?
When COVID started we lost 26 wedding within the 1st week that we were shutdown in Kentucky. I knew then that we had to do something that would be a great thing for the community. We pushed everything back in the catering shop and turned the front end into a cozy coffee shop. We expanded the following April making this a complete Pivot from catering.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
Took on a contract with a local school system and city department. Never having large amounts of payables out at once not realizing it would take both over 90 days to pay. This was not what was stated at the beginning of the contracts unfortunately we took on this contracts right before our local elections. So not only did we have to deal with changes in personnel from the school system but also in the local government. We were fortunate enough to skate by clearing payroll and having a positive balance.
