We were lucky to catch up with Latoya Beckles recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Latoya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Creating has always been my haven—a way to navigate life’s challenges and find peace amidst chaos. From a young age, using my hands came naturally to me. I had a knack for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Rocks, bottles, scraps of cloth—anything I could find became a canvas for my imagination. It wasn’t just a hobby; it was a lifeline. Overall using
The spark for LaBecks Kreations came in 2021, during a time of deep self-reflection. I was asked two simple yet powerful questions: What are you passionate about? What do you love doing effortlessly? At that moment, everything clicked. I realized that creating and designing weren’t just things I enjoyed—they were a core part of who I was. They brought me joy, gave me purpose, and allowed me to connect with others on a deeper level.
But the timing was far from ideal. The COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak, and uncertainty loomed over everything. Established businesses were struggling, and here I was, thinking about starting something new. The logical side of me weighed the risks: Would this work? Was it even possible? But deep down, I knew I had something unique to offer—a way to turn waste into beauty, to merge creativity with sustainability, and to inspire others through my craft.
What made LaBecks Kreations feel worthwhile was the alignment of my passions with a pressing need in the world. I wanted to do more than just create; I wanted to solve a problem. Every year, countless glass bottles are discarded, contributing to environmental waste. I saw an opportunity to give these bottles a second life, transforming them into eco-elegance, handcrafted décor that would add value to people’s homes, offices, bars, and restaurants while promoting sustainable living.
The idea wasn’t just practical—it was deeply personal. I had always felt a connection to nature, especially the ocean, which inspires my designs. I also believed in the power of creativity to heal and empower, a belief rooted in my own experiences of overcoming challenges. Combining these passions, I decided to take the leap and launch LaBecks Kreations, even though the circumstances were daunting.
Starting a business during a pandemic required courage, but I was fueled by excitement. The thought of creating something meaningful—something that aligned with my values of empowerment, integrity, and environmental protection—kept me going. The process wasn’t easy, but it was rewarding. With every bottle I repurposed, I felt a sense of purpose. I wasn’t just creating décor; I was telling a story, spreading a message, and turning trash into treasure.
In the three years since its launch, LaBecks Kreations has grown beyond my expectations. I’ve had the privilege of showcasing my work at major events like Agro Fest, the Crop Over Gala, Limegrove Craft Fair, and the Girlfriend Expo. I’ve also shared my journey with students, using my story to inspire the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs. Additionally, I’ve had the pleasure of decorating for the R.W.C VBX Experiences and being featured in my first-ever magazine through the YES Business initiative. My work has also been highlighted in Barbados Today, The Nation Newspaper, and on C.B.C News, among others.
My vision for LaBecks Kreations is about more than just products. It’s about empowering others to see the beauty in themselves and the world around them. It’s about proving that no matter where you come from, you can rise above your circumstances and create a life you love.
As we approach our fourth anniversary on May 29, 2025, I’m excited to take LaBecks Kreations to new heights. For those with an eye for unique craftsmanship and a love for sustainable living, we offer more than just décor—we offer a movement, a commitment to creativity, and a vision for a better world.
Latoya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
About Me and LaBecks Kreations: A Journey of Creativity and Purpose
For those who may not have heard of me, my name is Latoya Beckles, and I am the proud founder and Creative Director of LaBecks Kreations. I wear many hats—Entrepreneur, Artist, Certified Life Transformational Coach and Records Manager—all united by a deep passion for empowering others and creating meaningful, sustainable art.
My journey into this industry began as a child with an innate love for creating. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of taking ordinary, overlooked items and transforming them into something extraordinary. Growing up, I would spend hours crafting with whatever materials I could find—rocks, bottles, fabric scraps—you name it. For me, creativity wasn’t just a pastime; it was a way to navigate life’s challenges and express myself authentically.
In 2021, I decided to take the leap and turn my lifelong passion into a business. That’s how LaBecks Kreations was born. My brand specializes in crafting unique, sustainable masterpieces from recycled glass bottles. We create handcrafted interior and exterior décor that brings eco-elegance, warmth, and a touch of nature to any space.
What We Offer
At LaBecks Kreations, we aim to transform spaces with creativity and a natural touch. Our services include:.
• Handcrafted interior and exterior décor: From rustik centerpieces to vibrant, natural-inspired designs, our pieces are perfect for individuals and businesses who value sustainability and artistry.
• Decor for weddings, dinners, and brunches: We add a unique and nature-inspired aesthetic to your special occasions, creating a serene, eco-elegant ambiance that complements your event.
• Sustainable Wall Art: Our newest addition to the portfolio! These unique, eco-friendly pieces are crafted to bring life and creativity to your walls while staying true to our mission of upcycling and sustainable living.
What Problems Do We Solve?
One of the core missions of LaBecks Kreations is to address the environmental issue of glass waste. Every year, countless bottles are discarded, contributing to pollution and harming our planet. Through upcycling, we transform these discarded materials into beautiful, functional art, offering clients an eco-friendly alternative to mass-produced décor.
Additionally, my work addresses a deeper, more personal need. Many of my clients and followers are seeking inspiration and empowerment. Whether it’s through my designs or my life coaching, I help people see the potential in themselves and their surroundings. Just as I turn trash into treasure, I encourage others to find beauty and purpose in their own lives.
What Sets Us Apart?
What makes LaBecks Kreations unique is the fusion of sustainability, artistry, and empowerment. Our designs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also rooted in the principles of environmental protection. Each piece tells a story—of transformation, resilience, and the beauty of second chances.
As an artist, I draw inspiration from nature, especially the ocean, which is a recurring theme in my work. My connection to nature, combined with my eye for detail and passion for uplifting others, sets LaBecks Kreations apart.
What Am I Most Proud Of?
I am incredibly proud of how far LaBecks Kreations has come in such a short time. Despite launching during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones. Some highlights include:
• Participating in major events such as Agro Fest, the Crop Over Gala, Limegrove Craft Fair, and the Girlfriend Expo
• Showcasing my work in prominent publications like Barbados Today, The Nation Newspaper, and on C.B.C News
• Being featured in my first magazine through the YES Business initiative
• Inspiring the next generation by sharing my story and work in schools
• Decorating for the prestigious VBX Experiences
But what I’m most proud of is the impact I’ve made. Hearing from clients who feel inspired by my work or students who are motivated to pursue their own creative dreams is the most rewarding part of this journey.

LaBecks Kreations is more than just a business—it’s a movement. It’s about showing people that creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand. It’s about proving that no matter where you start or what challenges you face, you can create a life and a legacy that you’re proud of.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
in 2021, the world was grappling with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and personally, I was navigating health challenges. Amid this uncertainty, I took what felt like one of the biggest leap of my life—I launched LaBecks Kreations, a business dedicated to creating sustainable masterpieces from recycled glass bottles.
The decision felt right, but starting a business during such times was an uphill climb. Resources were limited, and opportunities to connect with potential clients were scarce. I had to quickly create an Instagram account and learn the ropes. I knew deep in my heart that this was more than just a business idea—it was my purpose. Creating had always been my outlet, my sanctuary, and a way to navigate life’s trials.
Early on, one of my most significant tests of resilience came when I prepared to showcase my work at Agro Fest and Crop Over Gala. These were incredible opportunities, but they also came with immense pressure. Behind every display was a story of late nights, sore hands, and an unwavering determination to present my best.
My resilience was also shaped by my ability to adapt and evolve. I leaned into nature for inspiration, which has always brought me peace—and channeled that energy into my work. I expanded my services to include decor for weddings, brunches, and dinners, even have a few in guest houses, all while maintaining my commitment to sustainability. Most recently, I introduced Sustainable Wall Art, a collection that reflects both creativity and eco-consciousness.
But resilience wasn’t just about overcoming external challenges; it was about transforming internal struggles into fuel for my mission. When I was invited to schools to share my story with students, I realized that my journey wasn’t just about crafting beautiful pieces—it was about inspiring others to see possibility in themselves, just as I had learned to see it in discarded glass.
Reflecting on my journey, resilience has meant embracing the unknown, trusting my creativity, and refusing to let challenges deter me from my purpose. Today, as I celebrate the milestones of LaBecks Kreations, from magazine features to news coverage and beyond, I am reminded that resilience isn’t just about surviving—it’s about thriving.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that I had to do everything on my own to succeed. However, as I continued my journey, I recognized that this mindset stemmed from our upbringing, and I had to unlearn and relearn as I journey.
When I launched LaBecks Kreations, I quickly realized that this mindset wasn’t sustainable. The challenges I faced—balancing a new business, health issues, still working a 9- 5, school and learning how to navigate social media—were too much for me to handle alone. I had to admit that I needed help, whether it came in the form of mentorship, learning from others who had already walked the path, or relying on a community of supportive people who could lift me when I was feeling down.
At first, it took a while to adjust, but over time, I saw that asking for help wasn’t a weakness, but a strength. Surrounding myself with mentors, like-minded individuals, and resources helped me grow faster than I ever could have on my own. I also realized that building a network of people who believe in you and your vision is just as important as the work you put in.
Now, I’m not afraid to lean on others when needed—whether it’s for advice, collaboration, or simply encouragement. I’ve learned that success isn’t about doing everything alone; it’s about building a strong, supportive community that helps you grow, challenges you to be better, and celebrates your wins with you.
This shift in mindset has made me more open to new opportunities and has allowed my business to thrive in ways I hadn’t anticipated. I’ve learned that asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of wisdom and a willingness to grow.
