We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Latoya Arnold a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Latoya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
Writing was always a natural thing to do for me and then a spark of hope entered into me through words spoken in 2005. I was up watching a show and in that moment the life of writing a book inspired my heart. From a journal to the computer, I began to move forward with a draft. When I heard the story of Esther, I wondered if my story was worth telling, inside I heard “your story is to be written on pages, from the table of contents to thank you.” By 2011, I had the first three chapters done, on Aug 10, 2013, I contacted Xulon Press publishing company to talk about my book. It took me two years to purchase a publisher’s package. Once the package was purchased the writing continued. I submitted my first manuscript on January 11, 2018.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a native of Washington D.C. and began my journey of faith in 2001. Over the past two decades, I have been dedicated to the work of the ministry and the people. Ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 2012, I serve as a leader and teacher to those seeking personal and spiritual direction. In 2019 I was inspired to create “Woman Where Are You?”, an online women’s bible study group, with my co-laborer allowing women to learn and teach the word of God. I am currently serving as the Executive Pastor of God’s Will Christian Church. And now an Author of Anointed to Bounce Back which is one huge accomplishment that took years and is now selling off the shelves.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
One of the most important things is valuing the fact that no one person is exactly alike and when managing a team the “killer comparisons” have to decrease and a level of appreciation must come in. This shift in perspective helps develop, and motivate those who work with you to level up in their creativity to be their best selves. It also builds trust which is the key ingredient to a high morale. No one can work effectively without a sense of trust in their abilities to get the job done.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2022 I was in the the last stages of completing my book, and I had to make a very tough decision to file for a divorce. It took so much out of me to take the first step and with each step I could not see anything positive. There was blow after blow and delay after delay. But God came through with a spark of faith and encouragement. He assured me that though what I was facing was challenging and painful He was with me every step of the way. That spark caused me to believe in what I could not see until I saw it. The publication of my book and a new chapter of my life. I do not think my resilience came in getting a divorce it came in my ability to respect that all chapters to a book do end and in the next chapter you can get up.
