We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaTosha McCauley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

LaTosha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.

LaTosha the Author LLC and LTA Publishing are black-owned companies derived from the mind of LaTosha McCauley. Being an advocate reader when she was younger, she enjoyed the wonderful and magical places a novel could take her. However, when she got older, she realized there weren’t many characters between those books’ pages that looked like her. She longed for the day she could read about pirates and astronauts with thick, curly hair and skin enriched with melanin. She began writing stories with characters that acted and looked like the people she frequented daily. Her stories represented a reality that was not often displayed in mainstream literature. LaTosha the Author LLC and LTA Publishing were created to give black and brown people the space and opportunity to become published authors. These companies assist, encourage, and teach under-represented communities about reading, writing, and literature. LTA’s mission is to get more people of color on bookshelves across the globe.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

LaTosha The Author LLC (est. 2020) and LTA Publishing (est. 2022) are companies that derived from the mind of LaTosha McCauley. Being an avid reader when she was a teenager, she dreamt of the day she’d see more POC authors on library shelves. It wasn’t until she got older that she realized she had what it took to re-invent the “norm” in the literary world. Her dream slowly became a reality.

The community she built is a place where black and brown movers-and-shakers feel welcome. The theme is black excellence, and the heights are limitless. With the power of their words, there’s no place they can’t go or things they can’t see. It’s time to change the world one letter at a time.

LTA’s mission is to have the biggest POC library in the world. Even though LTA caters to the black and brown communities, all authors with a positive message are welcome. Big-time, small-time, and in between, LTA encourages and uplifts great literature. Everyone has a story to tell, and LTA wants to hear them all.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

When LaTosha first started LaTosha the Author LLC in 2020, her main objective was to write novels. She simply wanted to introduce the world to more characters of color. It wasn’t until she published a dozen novels that she realized she wanted more for her business. Writing stories was not enough; she wanted to help others write stories as well. This is why she created LTA Publishing in 2022.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

LaTosha the Author LLC is responsible for all things novel-related, including cover creation and manuscript formatting. LaTosha was dedicated to learning everything there is to know about being a well-rounded author and publisher. Her professionalism is top priority.
