We recently connected with Latonya Littlejohn and have shared our conversation below.
Latonya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I found my biological family in 2010. My adoption was supposed to be closed but as fate would have it,I learned who my parents were and where I came from. I took this information I had and went to facebook where I found two of my biological mother’s sisters. I reached out to them with one responding. I was able to meet the woman that gave me life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Latonya Littlejohn, born Torie Michelle Kennedy and adopted at 18 months old. I was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus which is partially why I was given up for adoption. I wrote a book about this journey entitled Delayed But Not Denied..The Story of Torie and it can be found on Amazon.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I guess you can say my story started at birth. I had two surgeries days apart shortly after birth to try and save my life. One surgery to correct the Spina Bifida and the other to place a shunt to alleviate fluid from my brain. I’ve been a fighter all my life.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to raise awareness of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus as well as teenage parenthood and mental illness.
