We recently connected with Latina Unique Hair and have shared our conversation below.
Latina Unique Hair, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve done hair as a side job to make extra funds my entire life… I decided to pursue it full time when I realized I really enjoyed it,
I was working in Corporate America in my early 20s & a light 💡 just hit me lol
Totally cliche for sure, but hairstyling for so many wonderful people I have the pleasure of creating hair art for gives me a sense of purpose, and I love the joy & excitement surrounding it all, it’s definitely a fun job to have majority of the time.
Latina Unique Hair, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in Chicago IL, and at the age of 12, I entered the beauty industry as my aunt’s shampoo assistant & receptionist at her salon. During that time as a pre-teen, I definitely had an interest for beauty & fashion & was excited to learn more…
I continued in that role throughout middle school, and during high school, I started working at a new salon under a new salon owner (after my epic two-week fail at the neighborhood Wendy’s lol) and she also taught me so much about the hair industry.
After high school I thought my love for the hair industry was a phase and went off to college where I obtain a bachelor’s degree & worked in Corporate America directly afterwards however, I found myself still doing hair for several friends & family members each day after my 9-5.
After so many years in Corporate America, while still doing hair -for what seemed to become a side-gig, I finally decided to pursue it full time. I definitely love what I do, and the journey has been well worth it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is meeting wonderful people, and also having the opportunity to be of a service to them by doing what you love -and them loving it back, it’s such a gift to have those moments.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, and that is to make as many people happy & feel beautiful about themselves as possible, inside & out.
