We were lucky to catch up with Latifah Creer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Latifah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I really enjoy modeling. I’d have to say what got me into modeling is that I enjoy and love taking pictures. I really like trying on clothes because my style is a bit different from everyone elses. My own unique style is what makes me love taking pictures and capturing my bold outfits. When it comes to my style, I don’t like to match. Honestly, most of the time my outfits don’t match but I make it work and style it nicely, no matter the color choice I decide to wear. My style drew people to me which helped me model for other people and their brands. Modeling for other brands inspired me to start my own. I am currently working on releasing my own natural lip balm line.
Latifah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I spoke about what got me into modeling, now let me tell you about my all natural lip balm a bit more. Growing up I wasn’t thinking too much about the foods I put into my body, let alone the things I put on my skin. I knew that after I started using shea butter for a moisturizer a few years ago that my skin felt soft, way more moisturized, which gave me a glow to my skin. Then I came up with the idea to create my own lip balm using only natural ingredients. Now it’s the only thing I use on my lips! What sets my product aside from others is that I made different lip balms and let others try them out and pick out their best one. Then I made the final lip balm for my customers. This lip balm was a chosen favorite of all that I created when I was getting started.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One lesson that I’ve learned is that my business needed to reach a certain type of audience. When I say a certain type I mean do you wanna reach people who have oily skin, or people with thin hair, or ones who are looking for a better moisturizer. I’ve chosen people who want and have a more natural and organic lifestyle.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn everything I thought I knew about health, natural and organic products and what I out in and on my body. AS mentioned, I never really cared about what I put in my body or on it and now, I have unlearned all my bad habits to do better by my body and my skin!
