Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Latesha White-Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Latesha, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I always knew what I wanted to be growing up. From the little girl in middle school doodling on her classwork to drawing on her parent’s walls to drawing on myself. I never needed paper , just something to draw with.I always saw things visually.
Latesha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a proud mother of 4 and a wife. I was raised in a small town called Myrtlewood, Alabama.Where I’m from Art was never taught or even a topic. It took many years to find my path so I kind of dabbled here and there of the thought of pursuing what I wanted. In 2010 , I stepped out on faith while going through a messy divorce. I enrolled in art school 4 hours away in Georgia . I started out with weekend classes. I would pack up my two children for the weekend and do all day classes. Scared that it wouldn’t be for me because it was different from what I knew. But I was dedicated to see myself through my goal. I finally moved to Georgia with my children and became a full time student. For 4 years I was dedicated 5 days a week. I built a routine that aligned with my goals. My days went like drop the kids off at school then I went to school. Left school to pick the kids up then dropped them off at daycare. Went back to class til evenings then back home to dinner, homework for the children then homework for me. And the same thing the next day. It was hard but again you have to have dedication. Two months before graduation I had my 3 rd child. It didn’t stop anything but the fear of not getting a job in the industry that complied with my lifestyle as a mom. In 2014 I got into freelancing. Doing little jobs here and there. Over so much time I began to build my clientele and art style. I started out with paper , to digital, to painting. I didn’t like being in a box so I taught myself so much overtime. I became an multi medium Artist. My imagination was a little too big to stick to just doing one thing. Art is so many things. I love to bring my clients visions to life. From custom portraits, custom logo and graphic designs, custom clothing , paintings, book illustrations. I found some of my clients didn’t know exactly what they wanted. Getting to know my clients just a little taught me how to design just for them. Now I design based off personality . What sets me aside is my vision of being different and seeing more of what something can be.
.
I am most proud of overcoming the trials and errors and not giving up. Business is hard but eventually patience , hard work and dedication will help you to get where you’re trying to go. Fear of failing taught me some of the most humbling lessons as an artist and a person all around.
I want people to know I give my all to everything I touch. My brand helps build your story. My original art tells a story I don’t mind sharing because it tends to help a lot of people. My mission is to help people. I do this for the love of it. I always knew I was going to do this forever.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to inspire those who need inspiration and motivation. My creative journey can help anyone. My personality is huge so my many different styles reach different people. Everyone is not the same so I taught myself to become who they need. Creativity is contagious.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing as a creative artist is the freedom. The freedom to be my raw self. I get to put myself in something that someone will keep forever and pass down to their children.
