We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Latefa Little a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Latefa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Sometimes, I do wish I work a regular job because there is a lot of responsibility being an entrepreneur. When you work a regular job, you just clock in and clock out; you don’t carry the problems with you home. A great example is when my North Carolina salon’s HVAC system went out twice during the height of the pandemic. I couldn’t afford, not to fix it. I needed my clients and staff to be comfortable while in the salon. Employees don’t have to worry about things like that.

Latefa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I relocated back to NC from Atlanta, after having my daughter. I went to school for criminal justice but knew that wasn’t the avenue I wanted to travel down anymore. I always had a gift for doing hair so I decided to explore it professionally. Being the hustler that I am, I decided to open my own salon and created an opportunity for other stylists to perfect their craft. My daughter and I went back to Atlanta, in order to be closer to our family. I begin to travel back and forth every other weekend to work from my NC salon. When the pandemic closed down nonessential businesses, I had to get creative. God gave me ATLWig Ex as an alternative way to still service clients. My specialty is providing lace installs in 45 minutes.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When the pandemic closed down nonessential businesses, I had to get creative. God gave me ATLWig Ex as an alternative way to still service clients. I purchased a service truck and customized it to fit the needs of my business. I now can pull up to a client’s home, a movie set, or a music festival to provide install services.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I connect with my clients through social media, email marketing, and by hosting events in the salon. We recently had offered clients sweets and drinks in honor of Valentine’s Day. Kind gestures indicating that you care goes a long way.
