Late Night Creator, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
the most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my piece called “Create You.” It’s a person sitting with a paint brush in hand, and the head is a canvas with a yellow smiley face. I created that piece because I went through a little journey in 2022 that took a toll on my mental health and confidence. I wasn’t happy and also struggling financially. Being an artist a lot of people can project onto you, and they can tell you that your art is just a dream, and it will always be a dream( in terms of selling art consistently, etc). during that journey on building myself back up, I started gaining the confidence that I am the creator of my life, and that no one can put their doubt on me. hence the artwork I did letting people know you are the creator of your life. you can paint however you want to be/feel/look. I decided that I was tired of being as sad as I was at that time. so, creating the smiley face lets my audience know If you want to be happy you can do that.
Late Night Creator, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Atlanta based Acrylic Painter. I’ve been into creative things all my life. growing up Ive been in band for 7 years and I also went to college for Theatre Arts. art was actually natural for me. I just remember one day I just started nurturing my craft and taking it serious. I started off with drawing like most people, and id draw mostly cartoon characters. I started to branch off into drawing actual people and I fell in love. I loved the detailing of a persons face and body. knowing that everyone will have slightly different details showed how complex it can be when drawing people. while in college, I started to branch off into painting. I loved how the paint glides on a canvas, it’s so soothing and relaxing, and how so many colors can bring a sketch to life with so much detail. I bring life to my clients ideas. I have a lot of people come to me and sometimes bring me thoughts and ideas that isn’t already shown. I also combine imagines as if the subjects are in the picture together. what sets me apart from others is the fact that I make people feel when they take in my creations. my goal is to always have people experience some type of emotion when they look at my work. I want they to think, feel and leave impacted. I want people to know that I am here to bring life to images, just like actors bring life to words, or musicians bring life to music notes.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect of being a artist is the fact that I am my own person. Ive never conformed to society, or wanted to fit in. I like being my authentic self. if people like me they like me, if they don’t like me i’ve never really cared. I also love that ive been given a gift that helps make the world fun and exciting.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
speaking for myself, I’m not sure if other artist feel this way, but being an artist I like being stable to produce my art. that hasn’t always been me. stability wasn’t always there for me to feel comfortable to dig deep and create masterpieces. in and out of places to stay, and staying with family members, I learned to adapt when it came to me creating. even if I didn’t have space to put a easel, I built up the strength to never let my circumstances keep my from producing my art. just last year, 2022, it was a hard year for me financially, and ended up having to stay with my sister. sleeping on the couch, I found space to create. maybe since I was going though a few things, my art was my outlet. That years I created more than I’ve ever done in one year. focusing on my craft, it also helped me build my confidence, and also my audience on social media. I also created some of my best work during that time as well.
