We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Latasha Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Latasha below.
Latasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
Great question, I wish I would’ve started sooner than I did actually! I was always waiting for the right time, to have the right amount of proof, the perfect client story to share, etc, etc- instead of just starting because I was already getting proof. Oftentimes, when we start our business we want things to be perfect but I’ve learned that done (or rolled out) is better than perfect especially when our mission, our vision, or company origins are about helping people. Those people you want to coach or support do not care about your polished logo they want to learn what you’ve learned in less time and with your support!
I started my business officially in 2018 but had been coaching long before then- in fact, I’ve been coaching in a sense and helping people with their careers since maybe 2011 starting off pro-bono. My motto was always learning the fastest and then teach others what you know so they don’t have to feel like you or at least know how to navigate the “tough” parts of work- being the only one that looked like you, navigating through not believing in yourself, or even gong from unnoticed to promoted. I started my business at a point of discovery in myself to help at least 1,000 women across the globe in their careers.
Starting sooner would’ve just brought it to life sooner and helped people sooner than I did. I realized it when I did a podcast for Peanut and it was hundreds of women from across the globe on it who just wanted to hear my story, not the polished story but the real raw one of navigating through my career. I think starting earlier may have helped me hone in on my target audience faster than how long it took me ” going through the motions of the right way”.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Just like you may have, I started my career with zero direction as a server, living from coffee cup to coffee cup, not knowing how to go up the corporate ladder. And during my time, it was challenging to find a mentor who will spend their valuable time training me and giving me gold nuggets of advice that I need to grow in the workplace.
And it was difficult friend, I’m not even going to lie to you – your girl was on the career struggle bus ..always in between where I knew I could be to where I was (NOOO where near that). Then one day, I helped an executive receive a promotion, ace her interview, ad make a bigger impact – all from a 1-hour informal coaching meeting on the job…it clicked…this was my mission!
Fast forward to today, I am now an award-winning coach and entrepreneur who has taught thousands of professionals, from entry-level to executives, an impactful career strategy that resulted in promotions and fulfilling careers.
I’m master certified in over 10 of the most notable development tools such as Harrison, DISC, and Strengths Finder. I also hold recognition in the industry as a career influencer, next-generation leader, and top women awards for kicking ass in recruiting and leadership strategies in male-dominated organizations.
More officially, I am a 3X certified career coach, leadership coach, and resume writer for early to mid-career professionals. The Modern Millennial Career & Consulting is a full-service boutique coaching company for early to mid-career professionals rated as one of the top Millennial coaches in the Southeast. They have empowered thousands of clients across the globe to cut their job search in half, increase their salaries by double, and make an impact while creating a career path on their terms. My zone of genius starts with resume writing, career coaching, interview preparation, and longer-term coaching via my course the “Career Hustle Academy”.
Now, it’s your time.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clients for me has been word of mouth- I actually haven’t dedicated a dollar (yet) to marketing for the purpose of obtaining clients. I’ve tried to be very strategic and selective of the clients I have over the years and to ensure they also represent my brand as well. I’ve dedicated time to ensure my services are customized for my audience and the impact I want to make. Another source has been speaking engagements, where potential clients can hear me speak and see my vibe/style and then reach out to me from there.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to learn and unlearn in business was trying to be all things to all people. Even, on my website I was trying to “serve everyone” and by doing so I had to learn that I was serving “no one” or at least in not as specific way as I wanted to or could. I encourage you to really think through your client or customer avatar. and understand “everything” about your client or customer. I was given the advice early on to just start and then your client will be revealed to you- which to an extent..yes, you need to get STARTED. But the more time you spend knowing and discovering your client, where they hang out, and what their pain points are- you will get closer to your client or customer needs and thus build a longer term business.
When I started coaching, I was trying to help everyone but I always knew my niche was helping early to mid-career women in the workplace. I was so nervous to niche from the fear of losing out on clients but when I did I actually got more clients.
