We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaTasha Monique a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

LaTasha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

My story began with selfish ignorance. I am a mother of 2 daughters, who has been living alone for quite some time and purchased a firearm to “protect” us with no proper training . Fortunately I didn’t have to learn the hard way as why that was the wrong way to go about it. So i began getting training and eventually took a CCW course as well as had regular practice with a trained marksman. As I began getting comfortable going to the range myself, I would notice the lack of Black/African American men and never saw women of the same. At that point, I set out on a mission to help women of color begin feeling comfortable with firearms, firearm training and practicing their skills comfortably and honestly.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I am a mother, community banker, certified firearms instructor and enthusiast. My start became from obligation but developed into a passion. Synergy Tactical offers 1:1/private range lessons, Conceal Carry permits, Basic Firearms Education, Youth Education, Gun cleaning services and lessons. I also love to help people shop for firearms as well. Being a woman, I believe I offer people relieve and comfort as they are being introduced to this new space, which can be very overwhelming. I am most proud of founding and helping start a group of women who have an enthusiasm for firearms, for being a leader within the KC community when it comes to knowledge to self protection and building the confidence in the community as a whole. Know that I am just as eager to teach as I am to learn. What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source for me as of late has been the use of social media, as I sure can be true for most. To share videos, stories, examples, etc is what has driven more people to reach out and connect with me. Learning more about what i am capable of or services that I am able to offer.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Being in a male dominated space, it makes it extremely hard to show and share my capabilities. It usually takes me initiating or interjecting myself in a conversation to share my knowledge and understanding for people to accept that I know what it is that I know. Some of time, I have know substantially more than those who have attempted to block me out of certain spaces but I use that as fuel to continue learning and developing my skills.
