We recently connected with Latasha Long and have shared our conversation below.
Latasha, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to provide accounting services that you can trust. Not only am I an accountant, but I’m also a creative entrepreneur as well. We are committed to performing services that will leave you feeling empowered by knowing your numbers and understanding your business. As an entrepreneur and a creative, I understand how important it is to keep track of every transaction. When tax time rolled around, I dreaded it because there wasn’t an easy way to gather all of my information so I can relate to the average business owner that’s not tracking their money on a daily basis. That’s why Legacy Pro Accounting was created. I wanted to help overwhelmed CEO’s manage their monthly bookkeeping because some of them don’t have the time to figure out where their money is going.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a multi talented entrepreneur and started my first business Elle Shanell in 2019 where I craft handmade jewelry. This business was created during a time in my life where I was trying to figure out who I was and what I was good at. I loved jewelry so I started making it. I’m also an accountant with over 15 years of experience. Even as a professional, I still struggled trying to gather everything I needed during tax season. After running my jewelry business a few years, I would cringe when it was time to file my taxes because I had to gather a years worth of information in a short amount of time. I soon realized I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t organized when it came to business finances. When I started Legacy Pro Accounting, the number one thing I would hear is I’m overwhelmed by my numbers can you help me. Most people don’t think they need bookkeeping when they first start their business. If we are being honest, most entrepreneurs only focus on how they can make money and attract their idea client. Bookkeeping isn’t thought about until it’s time to file their taxes so until then they try to handle it on their own or they disregard it altogether. When they are ready to scale their business, they don’t have a profit and loss statement or a balance sheet to provide to receive grants or funding to help them with their cash flow. At Legacy Pro Accounting, we provide monthly bookkeeping services that help our clients increase their profits by effectively managing their cash flow. I have a way of making their numbers make sense to them on a level that they can understand. I also provide QuickBooks setup as well as training. For those who think they aren’t ready for monthly bookkeeping services, I have a DIY tracker. The tracker comes with a spreadsheet that allows you to keep track of your deductions, track your mileage and I even added a balance sheet so you can know how much your business is worth.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Wow that’s a really good question. I’ll have to say that I had to change my mindset when it came to running my business. Not many people knew I was an accountant because I didn’t talk about it. The main reason I didn’t talk about it is because people would ask me to do their taxes and truth be told I didn’t want to prepare taxes lol. It was up to me to change my mindset around that and to just educate them on what I can actually do for their business outside of taxes. I allowed that to keep me from showing up and I realized even if I don’t prepare taxes for everyone, there are still entrepreneurs that need my bookkeeping services.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been through word of mouth. Referrals have been a true blessing to me in my business.
