We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Latasha Jordan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Latasha, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Wow! Well I would have to say this… My mother was a single mom of 3, and I’m the oldest by 6 years. She had alot of help from my aunt and uncle, 4 older boy cousins and my old neighborhood…(East Hill). So yeah. I grew up in a Greenville Tx, a little town about 45 minutes east of Dallas. Mom had me I. Church from the time she knew she was pregnant with me. She and my father were married at the time and they both had the support of the church and community.
Many years later after the divorce, I remember mom always wanting me to learn as much as I could about everything I touched. If I claimed on a roof with my uncle and his boys, she made sure I knew everything I could about it…lol even if it was just how to jump off safely while swinging on a rope swing with my crazy cousins. (Yes, at time both mom and I thought the boys were trying to kill me). Those boys had me playing football in the graveyard, basketball in the dirt lot and taking bikes apart and upgrading them down the street. But most of all they thought me how to be strong and never show your fear even in you a peeing your pants. My uncle was a Vietnam Veteran and was the most laid back person I knew. With his many jobs, he thought me how to not sweat the small stuff and keep changing. You never let think see all your cards.
My aunt, oh my aunt, now that’s my 2nd momma. This woman a wife, mother of the 4 boys, a working nurse and super active in church had a massive unwritten schedule. Every weekend I would be at her house, and on EVERY Saturday bright and early like clockwork we would turn on the music and start cleaning the house from top to bottom, east to west. Then by noon we would get all the sales papers and go grocery shopping all over town. We would be back by 2, eat a little, put up the groceries then set up dinner for Sunday. This woman would not sit down on a Saturday unil 8p.m. sometimes. Then Sunday up early fir breakfast then church by 9:30. Then home sometime after 1p.m. then Sunday dinner. For all the running she did teach me how to organize my life. I’m still have not perfected it but I fake it pretty well…lol.
My father I never saw too much but what he did teach me was to always no matter whatbe a person of your word.
Back to mom, she always allowed me to be me. She never pushed me to be someone that the world thought I should be. Even today she is the same. She thought me to listen and care about others and always give love and demand love and kindness vibes back. Yet blocking all negative vibes. She thought me to be true to myself and be unapologetic me.
This question was a hard one. I had to really pull on some emotions and memories I have not had in a long while. Thank you for this question 😊

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am better known as Jordan professionally. Most people know me for my deep tissue and medical massage. My mother worked in a nursing home while I was growing up and that was my playground. And as I said before my aunt was a nurse in the local hospital. So anatomy and medicine was in me. However I decided not to go the traditional route of healthcare. I have a micro spa, Jordan Wellness in Mckinney and we have a large focus on deep tissue, medical massage and facials. And we help tons of people with chronic pain or rehab after surgery. However, we also do cupping, and body contouring that helps aid in weight loss. On the beauty side of Jordan Wellness we do cosmetic teeth whitening, waxing and eyebrow tinting. We also have a spiritual and relaxation side of it all. I have been trained in meditation and sound healing. These I love because meditation is nothing more than a prayer to whatever God or spirit you believe in. And sound healing is sooo awesome, as we all know everything God has created has a vibration right down to the DNA. Because we as people are so affected by sound once we find the right tones, sounds or frequency we relax and our bodies start to heal from the inside out. Sound healing is our fountain youth.
Hear lately we have been creating a product line called Euphoria. We are just about ready to launch our store. We have sugar body scrubs, lip scrubs, body butters, body yogurts and creams and infused body oils for both men and women. Later I plan to add CBD and natural herbal teas to the lineup.
If you can tell I am one to stay busy, but myself and all of the Jordan Wellness Crew we have such a passion for helping to heal and educate others.
I think one factor that attracts our awesome clients to us is that we are all so free to give love to others and we are so hungry to learn and share what we know.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I would choose the same profession, however I did not really choose massage therapy, it found me. I was taught a lot of the science of health and wellness in high school. I came out of school and went into fashion marketing then autoCAD then coding…lol then traditional medican. I have taken and passed tests for a BA in Arts & Technology degree. But doing all that I always went ack to massage and natural healing. It’s as if it held on to my shirt tails and never let me go. Back in the 90’s massage therapy was very taboo, it was not something that honest or you could make real money doing. But if I could go back…I would focus more on the health and wellness side of massage. Now, I would still want to go through all the other education I have received over the years. Without all that I would not be who I am today.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Oh my God, pivot. Well many years ago I had a business partner. He always thought we were a team but I was the one with all the knowledge, skill, crew and workload. He thought we needed to get this super large loan that we had no idea how we would pay it back. He wanted to pay for and creat this 35 page business plan that never see the light of day and spend thousands on a website that ended up looking like a 1st year student created it, a small high rise office that was unnecessary. After 6 months of bleeding money and him not doing his part to meet with our corporate clients and get contracts signed, we both decided it was best to devolve that business. That’s when I had to do a hard stop and pivot. I hade corporate clients that I did not want to lose and they did not want to let me go. So I created what is now Jordan Wellness Group. It has grown to become something I never knew could exist. I now have a bigger vision on what it could be. Or should I say what it will become.
