We recently connected with Latasha Ingram and have shared our conversation below.
Latasha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
Covid was a shock to many of us across the world. And as we adapted to the changes that came with it, families and businesses faced a great deal of change. The despair of the world halted our everyday livelihood. For business owners such as myself I worried that I would be greatly affected by Covid.
As for Tasha’s Baked Goods LLC, my business bloomed during Covid. Starting around the midst of everything shutting down do the Covid stipulations and mandates, I found myself reading more on ways to expand my business. I would literally research or listen to podcasts only relating to business and new business ventures. Skills that I knew I needed work on I became enthralled as I would learn new techniques and work on recipes to grow my business.
As families were left with the decisions to cut big celebrations out, I found myself getting cake or other treat orders in the multitude. I would be booked for weeks, if not months because although you couldn’t have the big family gatherings, families still wanted the normalcy of cakes and desserts. Birthdays, graduation and just because cake orders flourished during Covid…
Seemingly the world was devastated with all the complications of Covid and the distraught it bouts with death of family members. My family as well suffered the loss of my grandmother.
Covid taught me that no matter what’s dealt to you, it’s up to you to want to work past those obstacles and take it as a lesson to better yourself or sit back and do the internal work to maximize your potential in success and business. My business model now is to “Always work past your current situation”. I tell any new business owner that will listen, although life throws some things at you, doesn’t mean you can’t work past them to reach your goals.
If we can continue to achieve our goals and manifested prayers, along with hard work, I believe we can all flourish back to greatness post Covid. Just remember to take it one moment at a time and watch how God bless us to walk in the realm of miraculous outcomes of business and life…
Latasha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those that may not know me, I’m Latasha Ingram and the proud owner of Tasha’s Baked Goods LLC in which was established in 2014. I started this business venture of baking due to an aunt telling me I should. I was always baking or cooking for someone. I think back over the years and instantly become filled with gratitude on how far I’ve come. These homemade recipes have been a blessing to my business.
I mostly bake cakes, however I do offer the customer favorites such as, banana pudding jars, cookies, mini bundt cakes, peach cobbler egg rolls and other treats. I come from a family of bakers and cooks that have shown their love through food. So I guess I can say it’s a blessing to have such great women and men before me that laid the path of greatness.
I pride myself on great customer service, I am forever grateful for customers that have became a intricate part of my life and business. Often we see how businesses and customer service can get out of hand, so I make it my business and responsibility to adhere to my customers. I can say I’ve been blessed with some of the best customers! Communication is always top priority for Tasha’s Baked Goods LLC.
My proudest moments have been my Kids Baking Classes. I started last year and recently completed my 3rd class. It’s a complete honor to watch my little bakers be able to learn and instill their skills to make cakes and other treats. I had the praise of a mother who’s daughter has attended all my classes who is now at home making cupcakes, brownies, and cornbread. The enthusiasm that comes to her face while I’m teaching is by far one of the most amazing feelings I’ve had!
I would want potential new customers to know that I bake with love, you’re going to taste it when you bite into my homemade desserts. I pride myself on a moist cakes that’s filled with flavor. Plus if I’m not able to do your order I’ll go out my way to refer you to some great bakers that can accommodate your needs.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
This is a lesson I tell any new baker that’s starting out. Know your audience and what you want to do. Often times we look on social media to try to do things that other bakers may do and we tend to downplay our own skills. You have to unlearn to not compare yourself to Nobody else. If you make only cakes with buttercream, “make the best cake with buttercream”. Stop comparing yourself to some one that could have been doing the job longer than you or sooner.
When I started baking I would constantly compare my skills set to other bakers, and when I found myself doing that I started second guessing all my work. Please don’t do that, let God use you how he want to use you and allow him to magnify your business for the purpose he gave you. Once you unlearn that behavior I’m positive it will only get greater in business!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Life’s obstacles can surely bring you down and have you spiraling out of control. I must say in 2015, I faced the loss of my mother and grandmother within a 2 months of each other. I was devastated and didn’t know how to get myself back to doing something I knew my mother love to do and that was baking. I shifted through months of not being motivated and not even wanting to bake anymore, I felt as if my world had crumbled. As tears were in my eyes one day, I prayed to get that love for baking back.
It’s like my mother and grandmother sent down guardian angels and I started feeling like I previously did before their passing. It was still hard however I knew I was setting out to set a milestone of all I’m know they wanted me to complete.
