We were lucky to catch up with Latasha Ingram recently and have shared our conversation below.
Latasha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Whenever you write a plan and decide to execute that plan, you’re taking a risk. Being a business owner, and especially a business that caters to some of the greatest moments of people lives, you find yourself filled with emotions of gratitude. Being a baker is one of the most rewarding careers to have!
Tasha’s Baked Goods LLC is a business that has encountered some sad moments, however if it wasn’t for those moments, I wouldn’t be a thriving baking business as I am today. I took a risk when my Aunt mentioned to me years ago to start a business, all I knew was I like to bake for people… I had no idea that I would progress to be where I’m at today!
Tasha’s Baked Goods LLC thrived even more when I decided to take business to the next level with stepping outside the box of what I was accustomed to doing. Taking a risk I decided to add shipping to my business as well as doing wedding cakes. I’ll always advocate to take a risk when it comes to business, you’ll elevate to the next level or learn through the process. Either way you’re doing something that can lead to greatness for generations to come.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’ll start by saying I’m the Latasha Ingram the proud owner of Tasha’s Baked Goods LLC, I started my baking business in 2014 with the encouragement from an aunt. I never surmise in my wildest dreams expect for me who had watched her mom and grandparents bake some the most delicious desserts, find that same passion and be a baker…
All my customers would be the first to say that I cook with love, and I want to ensure every taste of my product is delicious to the last bite. I pride myself on excellence customer service and building a relationship with each one of my customer’s. Some of my customers are like family to me. Whether if the are calling about a cake order or just to say hello, I am overjoyed by the bond I build with customers.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When it comes to business and the type of business you are doing, You have to be mindful to unlearn the notion of following someone’s else process. For a long time I felt as if I wasn’t going to elevate to the next level of being a baker because I didn’t offer certain services such as fondant and etc. When I came to the realization that Everyone has a gift and it’s up to you to focus on your own craft to maximize your potential! Once you learn to master your craft and continually develop skills to enhance your own business journey, you’ll stride to even greater blessings.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Recently I’ve decided to participate in more vendor opportunities. By doing so, I’m able to meet other business owners and meet with potential new clients as well. This is a great marketing strategy to adhere to for a growing business.
Although most of my business is word of mouth, I’ve been honored to have fellow bakers refer customers to me. This way we are all working together to assist with the wants and needs of our clientele. Being a vendor at local events in your city is by far one of the greatest effective strategies to growing a massive clientele.
