We were lucky to catch up with LaTasha Bellamy recently and have shared our conversation below.
LaTasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Being a business owner brings a level of joy that is a result of having freedom and flexibility. I actually have a regular job where I am a professor in the daytime. I get the best of both worlds in being a business owner and being an employee. This brings balance to my life. The reality of being a business owner is that business has various cycles that it may go through. There are times when business is doing very well and there are no cash flow issues, when other times, business may be a bit slower causing a decline in cash flow. During these times as the owner I can put more capital into the business from income that I earn outside of the business to make sure that the business is able to continue to grow and thrive in the way that it needs to.
At one point I was a full-time business owner and while it was rewarding, the stress of having to rely solely on the income of the business for home expenses and the expenses of the business was beginning to take a toll. Instead of closing my business I decided to go back to work and continue to operate the business and work as well.
This method works best for me and allows me the flexibility and freedom to thrive in both areas.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is LaTasha, and I am in the accounting industry and started in accounting when I was about 14 years old. I started working with a CPA at a trucking company and quickly learned to be assertive in order to be successful. I currently have an accounting and tax firm where I help clients manage their finances in business and in their day-to-day personal lives. I understand the financial cycle of business owners and know that planning and strategy is the key to a successful business. I have both been a banker and an accountant so many of my clients lean on my knowledge as they make key decisions in life and business. Understanding the importance that finances play in the lives of my clients and others help to drive my decisions in my own business. As I am continuing to grow, my primary focus is making sure that I not only add value, but that my brand shows consistency and integrity and leaves a lasting mark on the community that I live, and work in.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One thing that I had to unlearn was disbelief. Many times, when we have big dreams it’s easy to believe that they are not possible due to disappointments in the past. Self-belief is important when you are moving forward towards your dreams. Understanding that although things will happen, challenges will come, and difficulties are inevitable your dream is not impossible. Once I realized this, my life became much easier, and I stayed determine to be a business owner who is successful and makes a profit while motivating others to live and stick to their dreams as well.
Where you came from and who you were expected or not expected to become doesn’t have to be who you are. You determine how you want your life to be.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
My clients are important to me and to my business. I treat them as if they are an extension to my family. I check on them and their goals. We talk during easy times and during difficult times. I make sure that they know that I am accessible and am willing to meet them where they are in their business. I can’t always predict challenges that a business owner may have, but I can prepare them for issues that may arise. Understanding where each client is individually is important to me. Every business owner that is a client of mine is unique with different areas that they specialize in and different challenges that they face daily. My goal is to implement plans, and strategies that move their businesses forward while being as efficient and as effective as possible.
