We recently connected with Lashonda Mchenry and have shared our conversation below.
Lashonda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I can definitely define myself as a risk taker. I believe in stepping out on faith. As long as I put God first, everything that’s meant for me will align. I have always worked for a company. I was raised to work & make money because that’s all my parents knew. But I taught myself how to do hair at an early age so I formed my own lane on how to create my own business.
In 2016, I lost my mother. And at that current time I was working for a company since 2005. And the way my mother’s job handled her, proved to me I wasn’t going to give my job or any other job my time. I decided in 2018, I was done with the corporate world and it was time to fully dedicate myself into my own dreams
It wasn’teasy but I was determined. I experiencedalot of good & bad times but I had such a great support system that always encouraged me to never give up.
I can admit that I tried many things that I had experience in but it wasn’t my passion. I took years to finally master my purpose. And now my focus is all about loving what I do instead of doing anything just to make money.
I’m blessed beyond measures!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Lashonda McHenry. I’m born & raised in Miami, FL. I am the proud owner of Magical Hands of Healing. Its a mobile business. I have a gift of Healing through my hands. From massaging to treating your hair. In my last interview, I discussed 2 businesses at that time I was operating. Lime Lite Marketing & Promotions which was established in 2012. I decided to no longer pursue that business because it had become boring to me. I wanted to do what I love. Also, I had Investments 4ever which was a credit company. I actually still have clients & I’m certified. But again, it wasn’t my passion. My hands have always been my gift. From doing hair, writing music, writing books, to healing. I needed to use the gift & power God gave me.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Years ago I was a rapper. And during my music phase, I met so many people & built amazing relationships. Those relationships built more relationships. I have high profile clients & regular clients. But in my eyes, they’re all my clients no matter who they are. Everyone gets the best customer service & VIP treatment for any service they request from me. I built my reputation through great relationships.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to trust people. I grew up in a family where I was taught to trust nobody. I lived by that for so many years. I learned to deal with people from a distance but they actually could be so close. I was programmed. When I stepped into the real world of the workforce & entrepreneurship, I realized I needed to unlearn that thinking I was taught for so many years. I needed to give people a chance to be close to me & help me. I needed to trust people.
