We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaShonda Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LaShonda, appreciate you joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
After a decade of being a service provider, I decided I was ready for a shift in my life. I’ve been doing YouTube full-time since January 2022 and this time around I’ve made a point to be very intentional with how I schedule my days and manage my workload. I am able to work 20 hours a week without sacrificing my income by leveraging tech tools and AI. I’m so grateful for this shift in mindset and I’m the most joyful I’ve been in a really long time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve never worked a full-time job for anyone but myself. I became an entrepreneur during my senior year of college and never looked back. In the very beginning, I hustled as hard as I could attending networking events and expos, While that definitely helped in the beginning, discovering online marketing took our business to the next level.
For ten years, we created videos for other people and now I get to produce them for myself. I absolutely love teaching tech on YouTube and now I’m coaching other service providers on how to leverage YouTube to create a passive income engine.
I am most proud of the relationships I’ve fostered as I’ve built my YouTube community. The Bootstrap Club is filled with compassionate entrepreneurs who genuinely want to see me win while they learn from me which is such a blessing.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I’ve utilized to grow my business has been building in plain sight. Including people in on the process and filming behind-the-scenes content so when I launch offers I’m not pitching to crickets.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When you find the right people for your team, you have to make sure you acknowledge their contributions and have fun. In our office, we’ve had Board Game Mondays and periodically we’ll just go on little adventures like going to the flower farm just to break out of the monotony of our regular work schedule. My mindset is we are co-creating with our team. We are working together to pursue a common goal. When you include your team in on the process, it’s easy to keep morale high.
