We recently connected with LaSheba Boyd and have shared our conversation below.
LaSheba, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I love Christmas! I was the person that loved to take on the challenge of doing multiple Christmas trees in their home. I started with one and ended up with five. I had multiple people tell me that I had to offer this to other people. When I first started, this wasn’t a business it was a hobby. Never in a million years did I think people would welcome me into their homes to decorate for their home for the holidays.
I wanted to take my business to the next level. I needed to scale to remove the limits I placed around myself that only focused on the holidays. However, I claimed my name for my business for my clients to know me as a seasonal designer. Deck the Halls means to decorate for the season. There is no reason YOU cannot be the reason for season. I started changing the point of view of spaces. I create spaces for people that want a look of glam, but may not know how to achieve it. I absolutely love what I do.
LaSheba, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Residential & commercial interior designer. Interior design has really caught the eye of people and have really made its place in our homes. When people watch HGTV and scroll through Pinterest. It really may feel as though you can do anything yourself. Everyone is looking for his or her own “WOW”. They are looking for something trendy to make it their own.
The problem that I love to solve is taking the image that you have in your head and bring it to life. Essentially, you are trusting me with your baby. Your home or workspace. This atmosphere is the place is where you come to relax, love, rest, work, and just be. You trust me with the most important place in your life.
I am very proud of the relationships that I have built with my contractors. I use local contractors to ensure that our money is going back into our community.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Problems are bad.
We have a choice to learn and adjust to the problems that we face. However, I feel that we also have a choice on how we move forward. When bad things happen. It happens! I always love when I figure out what I was supposed to learn from this problem.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I am not sure if this is a bad thing to say. However, I accumulate about 80% of my clients from word of mouth! It is my job to provide my clients with an experience. Every time I obtain a new client, I remind myself a quote by Maya Angelou that says, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” We start as clients, but end as friends!
