Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lashay Ayers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lashay, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I was working in an adult residential care facility for the past seven years and then my father got diagnosis of lung cancer and I was told he needed to be placed into a care facility for extra help. My family and myself went on tours and decided we felt it would be best to have our loved one at home, this situation really changed my life After my father passed away, I went back to school and got my bachelors degree with a minor in gerontology. I immediately started opening RCFE homes for seniors. I have eight care homes currently that I oversee. We are part of the assisted-living Medi-Cal program where we help low income seniors get placement and care. I recently decided to open my own agency called Elite senior services. This agency focuses on helping residence. Find placement and senior living we specialize in helping with the financial aspects and the social and care aspects of finding appropriate placement.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been working with seniors for over 20 years in the industry. My love comes from taking care of my own family members. I recently recently took care of my great grandmother and one of my care facilities. She passed away at the age of 97. Going through this process with my grandmother helped me to understand what all of my loved ones would be going through toward the end of life, appropriate senior living can be very overwhelming, especially when dealing with the financial aspect of it. It brings me an amazing joy to help families get Medi-Cal and Placement . These services are completely free to all families that we work with in the central valley.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think the most important part of marketing and building a reputation is doing what you say you will do for me. That is the most important thing when I promise a family that I am going to find the most appropriate care and follow them through every step, that’s exactly what I will do a lot of times in the senior industry things fall through the cracks, and that is very unfortunate because families are suffering . My marketing plan is very simple. We work with community partners to help each other to support our community. We host community events as an ice cream socials butterfly release ceremonies for past love ones and Christmas parties during the holidays. These are just a few of the things we do set us apart from others.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I am at my business partner as a community partner. She came into my facility with a hospice agency. We continue to work together over the following year in different agencies and decided we wanted to work together because our hearts and goals aligned. We wanted to help seniors find appropriate care.
