We were lucky to catch up with LaShaun Suber recently and have shared our conversation below.
LaShaun, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The Career Academy actually started back in 2016. I was asked to conduct a workshop at my Sorority’s Regional Conference In my hometown, Detroit Michigan. I have been in the employment industry for over 30 years as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, Sr. Recruiter, along with Training and Development. I have always specialized in resumes, Mock Interviews and Interview preps along with Career Advice. In 2011 I got certified as a Career Development Facilitator (CDF) along with my degree in HR.

LaShaun, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started as a Jr. Recruiter out of college at a very small staffing agency, while attending grad school. I was responsible for administration, customer service and labor positions. I really enjoy employing candidates in roles that they could be proud of and making a living for their families. In After gaining knowledge and experience in staffing I started working in corporate recruiting with fortune 500 companies. While working at a financial services institution I hired 200 candidates in one year and I was in the top 5 of the recruiters in my region. I would always say “I wanted to hire the world”. Starting my company, The Career Academy only made perfect sense.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Family, friends and co workers know that I have been in the “hiring” business all my career. Word of mouth has been a great source with people calling/emailing me for career advice or can I help revise their resume, or can you help me with a mock interview, because they have an important interview coming up. I am happy and excited to help them be successful. I also have a presence on social media, where clients find me, they reach out me to schedule a Career Coaching call and become a client when they learn how my services can really benefit them.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency is key when it comes to social media. Treat your business as your 9-5 and your 9-5 as your side hustle. If you are really serious about your business spend 2 hours per day perfecting your craft. Please know your clients, in most times family and friends are not your clients. Know your demographics, figure out their pain points and help them solve it. Be very intentional. Share only with business minded people, because everyone does not understand your vision.
