We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laryssa Wirstiuk. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laryssa below.
Laryssa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Many of our clients ask how I came up with the name Joy Joya. When conceptualizing the name, I wanted it to reflect the joyous and free-spirited nature of our agency. The word “joy” perfectly encapsulates the happiness, enchantment, and sense of liberation associated with both jewelry and the experience of wearing it. It signifies the emotional connection between individuals and their cherished pieces.
However, I wanted the name to have a touch of linguistic flair and cultural depth. That’s when I stumbled upon the Spanish word “joya,” which means “jewelry.” It was a revelation. Incorporating “joya” into our agency’s name not only added a melodic charm but also conveyed our dedication to serving the global jewelry industry. It symbolized our commitment to catering to the diverse needs of our clients in this beautiful realm.
Choosing Joy Joya wasn’t just about aesthetics. It was about creating a name that truly reflected our core values and aspirations. We wanted every campaign, strategy, and interaction to radiate joy, bringing a sense of excitement and transformation to our clients’ jewelry brands in the digital world.
The name Joy Joya represents our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional digital marketing services to the jewelry industry. It signifies our celebration of happiness, elegance, and the profound connection between people and their beloved jewelry. With each project, we strive to infuse joy into the digital marketing landscape, illuminating the path to success for jewelry brands and leaving a trail of brilliance in our wake.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I founded my digital marketing agency exclusively for jewelry brands because of my deep passion for jewelry. Even during my college years studying communications and writing, I found myself engrossed in jewelry-related content, browsing jewelry websites during my free time and even watching Jewelry Television for fun. After completing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing, I realized my storytelling skills naturally lent themselves to marketing. While teaching part-time and taking on freelance marketing projects, I nurtured my knowledge of different industries and brands.
A quarter-life crisis prompted me to make a move from the New York City metro area to Los Angeles, where the vibrant jewelry industry caught my attention. I left my teaching job and took a role as a retail sales associate at a jewelry store, allowing me to deepen my understanding of jewelry sales and even become Diamond Certified through the Diamond Council of America. Combining my diverse marketing experience and unwavering passion for jewelry, I decided to specialize exclusively in offering my services to jewelry brands.
Working closely with jewelry brands has given me a profound understanding of why I am drawn to this industry. I admire the creative and visionary entrepreneurs behind many jewelry brands, as well as their unique perspective on fashion and design. Especially among up-and-coming independent designers, I am inspired by the fierce and sparkling feminine energy that drives their businesses.
Having experienced the struggle of monetizing creativity firsthand, particularly in the realm of creative writing, I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by jewelry business owners. Balancing creativity with strategy is a common struggle, and I consider it my calling to help other creative individuals realize their visions and achieve their dreams. My strengths in strategy and building meaningful relationships align perfectly with this purpose, enabling me to support both my clients and the connection between brands and their customers.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Establishing my reputation in the jewelry industry has been an exciting journey. To solidify my expertise and connect with a wider audience, I have taken various initiatives. One of the key platforms that has played a significant role is hosting a podcast dedicated to jewelry marketing. Through insightful interviews with industry leaders, discussions on trends, and sharing practical tips, the podcast has become a go-to resource for jewelry brands seeking marketing guidance.
In addition to the podcast, I have developed a thriving YouTube channel focused on jewelry marketing strategies. With engaging videos covering topics such as social media tactics, branding, and customer engagement, the channel has attracted a loyal following of jewelry professionals looking to enhance their marketing efforts. The combination of visual content and actionable advice has helped me establish a strong presence and reputation as a trusted marketing expert in the industry.
Another milestone in my journey was the publication of my book, “Jewelry Marketing Joy.” This comprehensive guide dives deep into the nuances of marketing specifically tailored for the jewelry industry. From understanding target audiences to leveraging digital platforms effectively, the book offers practical insights and actionable strategies to help jewelry brands thrive in the ever-evolving marketing landscape. The book has been well-received, and its positive reception has further solidified my reputation as a thought leader and authority in jewelry marketing.
Through these endeavors – hosting the podcast, maintaining a vibrant YouTube channel, and publishing “Jewelry Marketing Joy” – I have not only showcased my expertise but also built a strong network within the industry. This has led to collaborations with prominent jewelry brands, speaking engagements at industry events, and opportunities to contribute my insights to industry publications. These platforms have allowed me to share my passion for jewelry marketing, inspire others, and establish myself as a go-to resource for jewelry brands seeking effective marketing strategies.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Managing a remote marketing team and maintaining high morale requires a combination of effective communication, trust-building, and fostering a sense of camaraderie. Here are two essential pieces of advice based on my experience:
First and foremost, communication is paramount. As a remote team, we rely heavily on digital tools and platforms for collaboration. Regularly scheduled virtual meetings through Zoom are essential for keeping everyone aligned and connected. Clear and concise communication ensures that tasks and goals are understood, and any challenges or roadblocks can be addressed promptly. It’s crucial to create an open and supportive environment where team members feel comfortable expressing their ideas, concerns, and successes.
Secondly, fostering a sense of camaraderie and team spirit is vital, even when working remotely. Encouraging social interactions beyond work-related discussions is key to building relationships and creating a positive team culture. Virtual team-building activities, such as virtual coffee breaks, or even casual Slack chats, can help team members bond and strengthen connections. Celebrating milestones and achievements, whether personal or professional, further boosts morale and creates a sense of shared success. Additionally, providing opportunities for professional development, such as online courses or industry webinars, demonstrates your investment in your team’s growth, which in turn boosts motivation and job satisfaction.
