We were lucky to catch up with Laryssa Suaid recently and have shared our conversation below.
Laryssa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My journey in photography started early, as I come from a family of photographers—my grandfather and father both had deep roots in the craft. However, formalizing my learning process came from real-world experience. I worked in various studios, and one of the most formative experiences was working for free for an entire month at one of the top studios in my city. Every day, I’d take the bus, pack my lunch, and essentially spend money to work, but it was a priceless opportunity to learn from the best photographer in town.
Looking back, I realize that mentorship and hands-on experience were essential in shaping my skills. If I could have sped up the process, I would have focused more on finding additional mentors early on and perhaps taken more structured courses. However, those early challenges helped build my perseverance, which is crucial in this industry.
Key skills that proved essential in my journey include understanding light, mastering the technical aspects of photography, and learning how to connect with clients on a personal level. You can teach someone how to use a camera, but capturing emotions and making people feel comfortable is an art that comes with experience.
The biggest obstacle was balancing my desire to learn with the financial challenges that came with investing in my education, all while working in an unpaid position. But those sacrifices were worth it because they ultimately accelerated my growth as a photographer.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Laryssa Suaid, the founder of Roseman Suaid, a wedding photography and videography business based in Escondido, California. Photography has always been a part of my life, with my grandfather and father both being photographers. I was drawn to the world of capturing emotions and stories through imagery early on, and over the years, I developed my skills by working in various studios, eventually finding my true passion in weddings.
At Roseman Suaid, we specialize in wedding photography and videography, focusing on capturing authentic, heartfelt moments. Our work stands out because of our commitment to delivering more than just beautiful images; we aim to tell the unique love story of each couple we work with. Every smile, every tear, every joyful glance is important, and we make it our mission to immortalize those moments.
One of the things that sets us apart is our efficiency. We know how excited couples are to relive their wedding day, which is why we ensure a quick turnaround—photos are delivered within one to two weeks, and videos are ready within a month. This is something our clients deeply appreciate, as they can enjoy their memories without a long wait.
What I’m most proud of is the journey my brand has taken. After moving to the USA in 2016, I had to rebuild my business from the ground up. In 2020, I officially relaunched Roseman Suaid, offering not only photography but videography services as well. It’s been an incredible journey, blending my Brazilian heritage and my passion for visual storytelling into a business that now serves countless couples. Each wedding I shoot is a new opportunity to tell a unique story, and I love being part of such a special day.
We offer a range of packages, from basic photography coverage to full packages that include two photographers, videography, a content creator, and even an engagement photoshoot. Our all-in-one package provides complete coverage of your day, ensuring that every important moment is captured.
What I want potential clients to know is that when you choose Roseman Suaid, you’re getting more than just a photography service. You’re investing in a team that is dedicated to making your wedding day unforgettable, with images and videos that will allow you to relive those cherished memories for years to come. We take the time to understand your story and tailor our approach to capture the essence of your unique love.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been utilizing Google and Meta (Instagram and Facebook) ads. These platforms have allowed me to reach a broader audience and attract couples who are specifically looking for wedding photography and videography services. By targeting the right demographics and consistently running ads, I’ve been able to increase brand visibility and connect with more potential clients.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One book that has significantly impacted my entrepreneurial thinking is Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon. The book emphasizes that creativity is all about drawing inspiration from the world around you and remixing it to create something new. It highlights the idea that nothing is truly original, and that’s okay—it’s about taking ideas, adding your personal touch, and making them your own. This philosophy has been a huge influence on my approach to photography and business, reminding me to stay open, learn from others, and constantly evolve my craft.
