We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Larry Lambert a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Larry , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on was all the projects I did for myself. I started in the game wanting to create by adding my approach and hearing others approach to music. I started working and putting my own music out when I was 21. Focusing on that helped shape my career path personally for me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Born 1991 in Philadelphia, PA, Larry Lambert started playing drums and piano at an early age of 3 years old. Just five years later, he became the music director for the Youth Choir at Victory Community Baptist Church. It wasn’t long before Larry started traveling and performing with his mother when she would sing at other churches as well. Realizing music was his calling, Larry attended Girard Academic Music School for high school and later attended Morehouse College on a band scholarship.
After leaving college, staying in Atlanta, he became a fulltime and touring musician; playing for Musiq Soulchild, Kenny Lattimore, and Angie Stone. Inspired, Larry started his own band, The Larry Lambert Project at the age of 20 recording his first jazz EP, “Just Wanna Play”. With so many Philly roots and a collaboration in which the legendary producer Steve McKie engineered and played drums, Larry recorded his second EP, “23”. In 2018, he got a call to play piano for Summer Walker which then led him to move back to Atlanta and become her music director. Since his return to Atlanta, Larry has toured with Ella Mai, Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, India Shawn, Baby Rose and performed with Lauryn Hill, Babyface, Deonte Hitchcock, and Playboi-Carti. Larry is currently still serving as Summer Walker’s music director. He is creating music at a very high level and currently working on Volume 3 of Uncle Bubz Beats featuring many talented artists and musicians.
Being a creative and able to quickly always been my strong suit. I always enjoy providing different ways and approaches to the artist music to help enhance their live performance or record.
