The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is titled “Silhouettes of Grace: The soft lines and tones of black femininity.” This collection of photographs celebrates the essence and enduring beauty of black women. Each image serves as a canvas, narrating stories of heritage, strength, and elegance. The project is deeply meaningful to me because it goes beyond mere aesthetics to symbolically represent the rich and diverse experiences of black women. Their manifold beauty, from the regal poise in their stance to the depth of their gaze, paints a picture of a legacy that is both unmatched and historically resilient. The soft interplay of light and shadow not only highlights their features but also illuminates the paths they have paved for future generations. My journey into photography began during my college years when I first picked up a camera to document nature hikes. The thrill of capturing landscapes morphed into a fascination with human expressions, celebrations, and interactions, eventually steering me towards professional photography.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

When my military service was suddenly ended because I was forced to be medically retired at thirty two years old, I had to start over. I discovered, however, that I could take a hobby that helped me through recovery with mental health therapy and make it a life-changing profession.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being a creative at LeChoyce Photography is the profound privilege of preserving special moments and emotions for others. Every click of the shutter captures a story worth telling—a smile, a glance, a tear. These are not just images, but bookmarks of our lives’ most cherished chapters. The joy and gratitude of clients who see their memories reflected through our work truly enrich our spirits.
