We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Larry Carello. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Larry below.
Hi Larry, thanks for joining us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
My father. I worked at an amusement park concession stand that he owned at a small, lakeside village in central New York State. My Dad taught me the value of hard work and to never give up, regardless of what challenges life throws at you. These lessons have stayed with me my entire life. Whether as a Midshipman at the Naval Academy, Division 1 college football player, naval aviator or airline captain, my father’s example is permanently ingrained in my being. The man had limited formal education (dropped out of high school at age 16), but he was one of the smartest, street-wise persons I’ve ever known.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My writing career began in 2005. At that time, my employer, Northwest Airlines, had declared bankruptcy and my future as an airline captain was in jeopardy. It was a huge challenge for my wife and I, both financially and emotionally. I felt that I needed a diversion from what was going on at my airline job, so I began writing. a short story.
That short story – based on my years growing up at Sylvan Beach, NY – became a self-published novel. “A Golden Weekend” instilled in me the confidence to continue writing. I have since published a trilogy of military thrillers and I’m currently working on the fourth installment.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Writing novels allows me to escape from the everyday world. I can create characters and launch them into a story, not always knowing how they will react during the creative process. Sometimes it seems that the story writes itself, prompting my characters to develop accordingly. For somebody with a strict science/technology background, I never dreamed that I would experience such a rewarding feeling.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Social media. I use Facebook and LinkedIn to share news about my novels or topics related to what I’m writing about. I’ve tried to build a strong presence on those two platforms without overusing them.
