We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaRon Bryson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LaRon , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What it takes to be successful is, consistency and dedication. There’s a lot of talented people doing what I wanna do, but with sets me apart from them, and what sets me apart as a creative, is my grit and determination for my passion, in what I’m trying to achieve. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work and it’s a proven fact. Mentailty is the most important factor, in the industry that I’m in and as an entrepreneur, you’re gonna be told no, you’re gonna be looked at differently, it’s gonna be a lonely road when you’re walking down this path of that’s unconventional to the normal man, to the crowd, to the sheep. So staying true to your vision, true to yourself and standing 10 toes down on your all your work and being proud of what you created as a artist is what it takes to be successful to me.
LaRon , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I go by the name the name of LaRon Bryson, and I’m an artist, entrepreneur, creative mind from San Antonio paving my way in music step by step. I originally started out stealing beats off of YouTube and releasing them on SoundCloud recording them on audacity, putting out bad poorly mix songs. I’m a self taught producer, engineer, and artist. As of now, I’ve been focusing on community in my fan base, putting out a freestyle Friday that I’ve been doing every week. Recording the videos places around San Antonio that are notorious. I’m also working on new music for all major platforms, trying to elevate & continue pushing the standard of quality music I’m able to make. Quality over quantity is where I’ve been mentally. I’ve been consistently elevating my brand & it’s still just the beginning of where I’m gonna take it. I’m still very proud of the fact that I’ve made it to this point, & it’s worth celebration but, ain’t no time to sulk in the victory’s whens there more to be made. What I wanna let any new fan or reader know about myself is to keep going no matter the circumstances. Even if your don’t like my music, or support what I got going on, i preach giving 110% to whatever you love & desire. keep grinding to your dreams. We only got one life, so wouldn’t you do everything to make it happen?
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was that I didn’t have to gain to move forward, I had to lose to move forward, I had to get rid of excess distractions to progress. I always thought that oh if I get this six pack, I’m gonna feel better. if I get a $1 million I’mma feel better, if I get a million followers followers, 10 million followers I’m a feel better.
But you don’t. I had to unlearn to learn that, I shouldn’t surround myself with certain people, I shouldn’t do this, I shouldn’t do that I shouldn’t indulge in this because it’s just a distraction. It’s negative energy. That’s what causing me problems. That’s what’s really affecting me mentally. Evaluating what was negatively bringing me down. Taught me a valuable lesson. You don’t alway need to add something in your life to make it better. But, what do you have going on, and how can you can remove the negative to make a positive.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Man, I watch a lot of interviews from my favorite artist, on platforms like rap radar, drink champs, complex & various others. Have had people like the great Nipsey Hussle, Paul Wall , Drake, Russ, Rick Ross. J.Cole, Etc etc. Have all given me gems that have put my mentality in perspective & and help me grow. Especially how Nipsey preached freedom, and his concept of Proud 2 Pay, bringing the likes of HOV to appreciate the genius in how he thinks. That influenced my entrepreneurial mindset a lot. I’m not an Avid reader. But, I enjoy reading books that bring me value like the 48 powers of law, The art of war, It’s all in your head, The 22 immutable laws of branding. These book hooked me because I was able to implement them in my everyday life & business.
I would recommend reading these books, watching interviews, digesting the gems that these people can give to you & 100000% recommend educating yourself on the mindset of Nipsey Hussle .
