We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Larissa Mundwiler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Larissa below.
Hi Larissa, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
When Larissa Mundwiler first opened Rooted in Wellness in Denver, she wanted to create more than a skincare studio. She envisioned a sanctuary where people could slow down, reconnect with themselves, and experience beauty as something that starts deep within.
What began as a single space with soft linens, sculptural massage, and a belief in natural healing soon grew into a movement. Rooted in Wellness became known for its sculptural facelifts, lymphatic techniques, and a sense of calm that clients carried with them long after their appointment ended.
Years later, Larissa felt a quiet pull-one that led her and her family back to her home state of Michigan. It wasn’t an easy decision to leave behind the place where Rooted first bloomed. But growth often asks for courage. She packed up her vision, her tools, and her faith, and began again-this time in Grand Rapids.
“I kept hearing this little voice reminding me that roots aren’t meant to keep us still,” she says. “They’re meant to help us grow in new directions.”
The Michigan studio carries the same soul as the original- earthy textures, calming neutrals, and intentional care woven into every detail. But it also holds the energy of new beginnings. Clients come not only for facials, but for what Rooted in Wellness represents: slowing down, returning to self, and choosing rituals over routines.
Opening a second location in a new state was a risk. There were moments of uncertainty, endless planning, and late nights spent wondering if people would understand the heart behind the brand. But what Larissa found was community, neighbors, local business owners, and new clients who embraced the Rooted philosophy with open arms.
“Taking this leap reminded me that wellness isn’t just what we offer our clients,” Larissa says. “It’s what we practice ourselves, trusting, growing, and staying grounded through change.”
From Denver to Grand Rapids, Rooted in Wellness continues to evolve, one facial, one connection, and one act of courage at a time.

Larissa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At Rooted in Wellness, every treatment is an intentional ritual designed to restore balance to both skin and spirit. Services blend advanced facial sculpting, buccal massage, lymphatic drainage, and Gua Sha with organic, plant-based skincare to support natural rejuvenation from the inside out. Each facial begins with calming breathwork and intuitive touch, allowing the nervous system to settle before the deeper sculpting and lifting work begins. Through gentle internal and external techniques, tension melts away, circulation awakens, and the skin regains its natural glow. Every element, from the herbal compresses to the curated seasonal masks, is chosen to align with nature’s rhythm and remind clients that true beauty begins within.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Larissa built her reputation through intention, education, and touch. From the beginning, clients were drawn not only to the visible results of her facials, but to how they made them feel, calm, seen, and deeply cared for. Her hands became known for their sculpting precision and grounding energy, blending advanced techniques like buccal massage and lymphatic drainage with a nurturing, intuitive approach. Word spread quickly through referrals and authentic storytelling, not advertising. She took time to build relationships, share her knowledge, and create spaces that felt like a breath of fresh air in an often fast-paced industry. Her reputation grew from consistency, connection, and a clear mission- to help people feel at home in their own skin.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective way to build clientele for Rooted in Wellness and for any holistic or service-based business, is to focus on three interconnected strategies: connection, consistency, and experience.
1. Connection
People book from emotion first and logic second. Share your story, your rituals, and what makes your approach unique- your sculptural and buccal techniques, nervous-system focus, and the calm energy of your spaces. Talk to people, not at them. Encourage referrals by nurturing long-term relationships and creating touchpoints like thank-you texts, seasonal check-ins, and loyalty rewards that make clients feel personally seen and valued.
2. Consistency
Show up regularly online and in person with a clear message and visual identity. Post behind-the-scenes content, skin tips, and grounding rituals that feel authentic to your brand, soft, slow, and nature-inspired. Make it easy for new clients to understand what to expect when they book with you, and ensure that every part of the journey, from your Instagram to the treatment room, feels cohesive.
3. Experience
Your reputation is built one treatment at a time. Offer a sensory experience that clients want to talk about, intentional touch, warmth, aroma, and care that feels personal. Encourage clients to rebook before leaving and pair that with subtle incentives for return visits. When every detail feels curated and caring, word-of-mouth becomes your strongest marketing.
In short, you build clientele by being unforgettable not through volume or discounts, but by creating an experience that people want to come back to and share.
