We recently connected with LaRissa Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi LaRissa, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
For me, creativity has always been the place I felt most at home. Even before I ever thought of it as a “business,” I was the girl who loved making people feel beautiful, inspired, and seen. Over time, that passion naturally evolved into helping women step into the version of themselves they didn’t always realize they could be, whether through makeup artistry, styling, or simply sharing my lifestyle as a mom and a creative.
Becoming a mother deepened that purpose even more. After having my son, I wanted to build something that not only allowed me to show up for him, but also allowed me to show him what’s possible when you trust your gift. That’s when everything clicked, my love for beauty, my eye for aesthetics, and my storytelling through content all came together. I realized I didn’t have to choose one lane… I could create my own.
Glamour By Rissa, The Curvy Enterprise, and my digital platforms became a space where beauty, lifestyle, motherhood, and creativity could all live together. It’s a reflection of who I am and the women I create for; multidimensional, soft, intentional, and evolving. What started as an idea has grown into a brand and a community that I’m incredibly proud of!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is LaRissa Johnson, and creativity has been home for me for as long as I can remember. I’ve been a professional makeup artist for 10 years, and in 2021 I launched The Curvy Enterprise, not just as a business, but as a space where women could feel seen, valued, and beautiful in their own skin.
Motherhood gave my work a deeper purpose. After having my son, everything shifted. I wanted to build something that allowed me to show up fully as a mom while still honoring the woman I was becoming. My brand grew from that place. A blend of beauty, lifestyle, storytelling, and intentional content that reflects real life, not just the polished parts.
Through Glamour By Rissa and my digital platforms, I provide beauty services, lifestyle content, and creative direction. What I really offer, though, is a feeling.. confidence, softness, and a reminder that women are allowed to evolve. I’ve worked with brides, everyday women, brands, and young girls through my mentorship program, and each connection reinforces my mission: to uplift and inspire through authenticity.
What sets me apart is the way I merge real life with aesthetics. I don’t create from perfection.. I create from honesty, growth, motherhood, and lived experience. My artistry and storytelling meet in the middle, and that’s where my community has blossomed.
I’m proud of the impact I’ve had on women who follow my journey. Everything I share is intentional, and I hope my work reminds others that they can build a life that fits who they’re becoming, not who they’ve been.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the biggest examples of my resilience came after becoming a mother. I went through really bad postpartum depression while juggling a full-time job and trying to hold onto the pieces of myself that existed before motherhood. I loved my son deeply, but I didn’t recognize myself creatively, emotionally, or mentally. It was one of the darkest and most overwhelming seasons of my life.
But healing came in small steps. Little moments where I chose to keep going. Getting ready for work when I barely had energy. Picking up my makeup brushes again after months of feeling disconnected from the artistry I loved. Allowing myself to create, even imperfectly. Slowly, I began rebuilding who I was, not the woman I used to be, but the woman I was becoming.
That season taught me a softer kind of strength. It showed me that resilience isn’t loud or glamorous.. sometimes it’s quiet, steady, and rooted in love. And it’s the reason I show up the way I do now, both as a mother and a creator.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My audience grew because I showed up as myself fully and unapologetically. When I started posting, it wasn’t just the makeup looks people connected with. It was my style, my outfits, the way I got dressed up, and the energy behind it. I didn’t overthink it; I simply shared what felt natural, and people gravitated toward the authenticity.
As I opened up more about motherhood, beauty, and my everyday life, my audience shifted into a real community. The more I leaned into who I already was, not a curated persona, the more my platform grew. People don’t just follow what you do; they follow who you are, and that’s been the foundation of my presence online.
I also stayed consistent on posting on all social media platforms.
