Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Larissa Crecco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Larissa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
The story is pretty incredible. My first professional dancing job was one I never imagined I’d land, especially as a young, inexperienced dancer just starting out in Los Angeles. I had just signed with a prestigious agency, and this was only my third professional audition. It was for Missy Elliott. Who wouldn’t want to dance for Missy? She’s the queen of groundbreaking and innovative music videos.
Being so new to the industry, I made a rookie mistake—I showed up to the audition in sweatpants. I learned the choreography and started working to perfect it, but as I looked around the room, I saw dancers who were impeccably dressed and clearly talented. That’s when the fear and doubt crept in. I got so in my head that I left. I literally got into my car and started driving away. But something in me said, “Larissa, you learned the choreography—why not just do it?” So I turned the car around, went back in, and hoped no one had noticed I’d left.
When my number was called, I gave it my all. To my surprise, they kept me. And they kept me again, and again, after each round. I couldn’t believe it—I was still in the running. I left that day feeling empowered, but I didn’t expect anything more from it. It was just a great experience.
The next day, I got a call from my agent: “You have a callback, and Missy will be there.” I was floored. Me? An 18-year-old rookie? How?! I went to the callback, freestyled in front of Missy herself, and left that day feeling proud but not expecting much.
A few days went by, and I’d almost forgotten about it when my agent called again: “You booked the job. You’re going to be a main dancer in Missy Elliott’s music video.” I was speechless. Emotional. Elated. It felt surreal. That moment changed everything for me—it proved that I was capable, that my passion and hard work were paying off. I realized I could do this. I *am* a professional dancer.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a professional dancer and fitness instructor, deeply passionate about my craft. Through personal fitness training and dance coaching, I have the privilege of guiding private clients to discover their inner strength, while also offering group fitness classes across multiple modalities. My approach is unique, as I weave the artistry and precision of dance with the discipline of fitness. As a dancer, I possess a profound understanding of the body—its movement, alignment, and power—which sets me apart in the fitness industry. I am especially passionate about empowering women to realize their strength, helping them grow, flourish, and awaken the vibrant life force within. My mission is to inspire women to embrace their innate power and step into their most powerful selves.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being a professional dancer and fitness instructor comes with immense challenges, especially when it comes to body image and the constant pressure to conform to certain physical standards. Auditioning in the dance industry is not just about talent—it’s about fitting into an often unattainable ideal. I’ve faced countless moments where I was told to lose weight to fit a specific look, and it’s a struggle that can take a toll on even the strongest minds. This is why I’m so passionate about offering my clients, particularly women, a different perspective. We, as women, are so susceptible to these pressures, and I’ve made it my mission to help them see their bodies for the incredible, powerful vessels they are—strong, capable, and uniquely their own. Through my work, I aim to dismantle the harmful standards and empower my clients to embrace their true selves. We all possess this innate resilience. We have to continuously remind ourselves of what we are capable of.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
What sets me apart as a fitness coach is my holistic approach, which goes beyond just physical training. I deeply believe that true transformation happens when the mind, body, and spirit are working together in harmony. For me, it’s not just about building strength or endurance; it’s about developing emotional resilience and mental agility as well. I integrate this into my coaching because I’ve seen firsthand how intertwined our physical abilities are with our mindset and emotions. By helping my clients build not just their bodies but also their confidence, focus, and emotional well-being, I empower them to unlock their full potential—both in and out of the gym.
