We recently connected with Laquitta Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Laquitta, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
At Pretty Quick Tax Service, i believe we differ from others im the industry because even though my team are their own boss we still rep the brand like a family unit when we come together to do things in the community! Basically we move as 1 unit under the same umbrella so when people see us they dont know who the boss is!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Laquitta Smith some people know me as Keke! I’m the owner of Pretty Quick Tax Service LLC, Pretty Quick Tax Software, and Pretty Quick Tax Academy!
I’ve been an ERO for 17 years. Specializing in individual and business returns. I have received many awards including a Global Humanitarian Award, Top Leader in the Tax industry awarded by ABTP as well as Who Who in America and best online business of the year by The Niche Down Awards and here recently nominated as one of the top 20 most influential women in the industry!
I’ve been a service bureau for 7 years, which has allowed me to grow my business into a 7 figure tax business!
My goal is to help educate not only new and upcoming professional, but anyone. Just because someone has been in this industry for years, you can never stop training and educating yourself and others.
So i said all that to say, Don’t be afraid to bet on yourself. Believe in yourself! Always operate with integrity, and respect and with God on your side who can be against you?!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
So ive used all of my own money to fund my business. Like i said earlier that I’ve been in the industry for almost 17yrs and i haven’t always been where i am now.
When i first started i was driving school buses and at the time i also had another business called Pretty Hair Inc, so i would use my work checks to invest into my tax business as well as some of the profit from my hair business.
Over the years i would also save my money from tax season to be able to put more money into my marketing for my tax business because i know that marketing is whats going to get your brand in front of potential clients! Fast forward to now, i can afford to be on DART buses, billboard and eventually TV!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When i first got started in the tax business no one was doing what i am doing now. I had to learn on my own by educating myself on the tax industry as well as i had to find ways to stay updated educationally because people where only use to the big tax brands like H&R Block so i would ask some local people but no one really was giving me valid info basically sending me off to go find help on my own.
So that made me have to find other sources in different stated that were willing to help me further my education and knowledge and thats exactly what i did! I would travel to florida and las vegas to get the education and then educate my followers on social media and that how i made my presence known in this industry because i set myself apart from others even when people shut the door in my face.
Now i help others get thier start in this industry and not have to go through all of the loops that i had to go through and i also teach them how to do taxes according to IRS publications and how to do it the right way and move with integrity in this industry!
Thats what has lead me to become one of the top leaders on the tax industry!
