We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaQuest Ware a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LaQuest, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
So before photography, my interests pertained to fashion in its entirety. I have always had a fascination with how fashion is captured. The way we as onlookers gain admiration and inspiration from what we see. It would not be until the start of the pandemic that I pursued photography. I purchased my first camera on Amazon. I started off taking pictures of just about everything and everyone! From my friends, family, and myself. I started gaining more confidence in my passion and getting support from my family. They are my biggest supporters throughout it all. They helped me by purchasing equipment and by referring me to others. Along the way, I have had help, advice, and even equipment from Nashville photographers such as Deonandre Brown, Jade Griffin, Chanitra Dreher, and David Lara. I started gaining experience and broadening my technique.
Today, I am a very blessed artist, constantly gaining knowledge as I continue. with the help of some of them as well. I know a lot of people know what they want to be when they grow up but I didn’t know until I was 28 years old. I see a different view of things once I look through that lens and I love every moment of it.
LaQuest, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I specialize in maternity, family portraits, editorial, birthdays, engagements, graduations, children, and headshots. I believe headshots are my absolute favorite thing to shoot because you may come as simple or creative as you want and make someone’s day.
My most proud moment has been finally getting my own studio for my photography, I had been shooting in my apartment for a very long time because sometimes I honestly could not afford to rent out a studio. Since I have gotten more bookings along my journey I have been able to get my very own studio! I feel like I put a creative twist to photography and with every photo I take I say to myself “I want people to look at this photo and know only QuestPhotography615 could create something like this”.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Yes, so I started building my audience on social media. I had created a business Facebook and a business Instagram account. And every day I would post and post and post I would start off with really cheap bookings as low as $50 and then as I advanced, more and more people began to reach out, I began to post even more just trying to get my business out there and market and show everyone that I am a really good photographer.
My advice to anyone, just starting to build a social media presence, just post and post and market and market. You can never go wrong with posting your work and marketing your work that is the only way people will see you.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me, has honestly been social media. Facebook, and Instagram have helped me tremendously. Also, I always do a lot of deals as far as holiday deals. I also do referrals, so if you were to refer to people to book with me, you would get a free photo shoot for yourself or if you do two photo shoots for yourself your third photo shoot would be free. I just really try to work with and satisfy everyone that I come in contact with because your business is a reflection of you.
