Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laquesha Ford-Mcquay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Laquesha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
𝓐 𝓓𝓮𝓯𝓲𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓜𝓸𝓶𝓮𝓷𝓽 𝓲𝓷 𝓝𝓾𝓻𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰:
One defining moment for me in my Nursing Career was when the call center I worked for at the time was completely full and the only option the department had was to place two employees that could work unsupervised at another location separate from everyone else in order to make room for two new employees. Me and another co-worker were chosen to be placed at the other location. Sounds simple, but it gave me the opportunity to prove to myself and to my department Director that I could be trusted to work separate from anyone else and still get all of my work done with excellence and maintain great customer service.
While at that location, I was sat directly in front of the site Supervisors’ office to do my work daily. I’m still unsure if that was done purposefully or if that was simply the only area me and my co-worker could work in. Either way, it granted me so much favor at that particular location because the Supervisor overheard all the compliments patients came back to give me daily and he overheard some of my phone calls with departments, patients, and MD offices and would often thank me for having excellent customer service skills.
I worked for about 6 months at that location and had to go on maternity leave to have my son. I had many complications with his birth and on top of everything I was dealing with, I found out my department was going to let go of the Nurses. I had the option of staying in the department, but I would have to take a $3/hr. pay cut.
Because of me working at the other location, prior to maternity leave, allowed the site Supervisor an opportunity to observe me interacting with many people daily and know my servitude and caring attitude. As soon as I came back to work, I was able to transfer to the department and location I loved and previously worked at temporarily prior to my leave. Such an amazing Supervisor that I’ve continued to serve in his department for the past 9yrs. He is now my Director and has always respected and looked out for me all these years and I’m very grateful!
That was a turning point for me because you never know who’s watching you perform your daily task and you never know how much of an impression you leave upon others by just being yourself and doing good to others! Had I not been positioned at that location prior to them letting the nurses go, I would’ve really had to scramble to find a position with my same hours, no weekends, or holidays which is very important to me for the sake of my children. I believe that taught me that no matter what changes in your life, when you trust God to lead and guide you daily, your steps are always ordered by him!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
𝓐 𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓵𝓮 𝓫𝓲𝓽 𝓪𝓫𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝓶𝓮:
I’m a born and raised East Texas girl. A mom of two boys. One day when I was 18 yrs. old alone in my bedroom, I had an undeniable encounter with a real tangible God that changed me forever! I love Jesus and Butterflies! My heart and love for God extends and flows to everyone I meet.
𝓗𝓸𝔀 𝓭𝓲𝓭 𝓘 𝓰𝓮𝓽 𝓲𝓷𝓽𝓸 𝓶𝔂 𝓲𝓷𝓭𝓾𝓼𝓽𝓻𝔂?
𝓝𝓾𝓻𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰- My heart of compassion and servitude called me into Nursing like a magnet. I’ve always had a heart for the well-being of others. Seeing others healthy and healed makes my heart sing. It’s like medicine to my soul. I firmly believe the Medical Field is a calling and if you are going to work in any area of the Medical Field you should possess a heart of compassion. Many people in our day and time lack a servant’s heart but in order to endure many years in this field, the posture of your heart matters. When someone is sick, there’s nothing like having a caregiver that has no patience with a non-caring attitude!
𝓒𝓸𝓪𝓬𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰- In Coaching my focus is on providing comfort recovery and rediscovery to those post Narcissistic Abusive Relationships. Being in a relationship with a Narcissist has an indescribable effect on those who have endured it. It’s very hard for anyone to understand what a person has and is experiencing after they’ve been in a relationship with a Narcissist unless they have experienced it for themselves. The mind of the victim has to be completely “untangled” and renewed. This type of abuse is a ball of confusion and is so twisted it really takes a great amount of time and recovery to re-gain confidence, boost self-esteem, and build a new foundation of truth. There is nothing like having someone come along to take you by the hand and walk with you throughout your healing journey. That’s the area I serve in the restoration process in the lives of those needing Coaching.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Other than training/knowledge, I believe the number one key to succeeding in any field is a caring heart, a positive outlook/perspective about life, and a relationship with Christ. When you accept Christ and receive his spirit you have access to an indwelling navigation system! The Holy Spirit within us navigates our business our goals and our lives if we are open to its leading and guidance.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽’𝓼 𝓪 𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼𝓸𝓷 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓱𝓪𝓭 𝓽𝓸 𝓾𝓷𝓵𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓷 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽’𝓼 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓫𝓪𝓬𝓴𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂?
Something I had to unlearn would be “God is only for Sunday or Wednesday” I know that seems like a very strange answer because it may seem that it doesn’t quite fit in this interview, but I’ll share the backstory to the statement.
𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓪𝓬𝓴𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂- Growing up and throughout my young adult life I never really seen felt or heard a lot of people bringing God into a lot of anything other than a traditional Sunday or Wednesday service in their church. I feel that God is the foundation of anything we ever attempt to do in life because he gives us the strength and ability to do it. Does that mean you write the word God on everything in your Businesses, your Outreach, or Job? No. It simply means you invite him into your Businesses and every area of your life. Meaning, he’s the foundation. He has free course to lead and guide your business in the right direction so when people encounter your Business, although they may not even know if you’re a Christian or not, they feel and see that there’s something special about it.
Now, more than ever, with this world being in the state it’s in I feel that we should begin to invite God into every detail of our lives. He’s not a God that we visit on Sunday and Wednesday! He’s an everyday, every moment type of God that desires to navigate every detail of our lives.
