We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laquan Copeland. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laquan below.
Alright, Laquan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Over my 5 year career professionally in Los Angeles, I’ve had the opportunity to cultivate and be apart of some amazing projects! From directing the LeBron James All Time Scoring Record for Warner Brother Studios and Bleacher Report to sharing the screen in Issa Rae’s Project Greenlight on HBO Max, these meaningful projects have taught me that this career is a marathon and not a sprint.
My goal is to continue to cultivate spaces within my projects and create opportunities for myself and communities of color and to showcase underrepresented stories within our community.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As an actor, director from Columbus, Georgia, I began my career in entertainment in 2017 when I moved to Los Angeles, CA. As an actor, my most recent work includes The Dirty South coming to theaters this fall, Project Greenlight on HBO Max, Midas & more.
My career is fueled by my passion to be one of the best entertainers of my generation and my mission to create opportunities and tell marginalized stories that amplify the voices of my people and community. What I am most proud of is the fact that I created my own table, the opportunities that I’ve been granted throughout my career that I was able to leverage into higher places within the industry. In term, making it much easier for people that look like me and the next generation to come through those same doors with ease.
In a career filled with ups and downs, uncertainty, but also assurance, you have to be insanely crazy and have a strong sense of faith to do this, but ultimately know your worth and know that the world needs your voice, your story and your ideas. I champion the voices of creating your own table as that is what has worked best for me throughout my career so far within the industry,

How did you build your audience on social media?
When building my online presence in digital media for my personal as well my animated series Soturi, allblackanime, it was my mission to have my audience understand our brand, our mission and our content. I think those are 3 successful keys to every individuals platform.
For allblackanime/Soturi, it was important for me to focus on brand-identity, consistency and who our target audience was. Once I understood this, my success grew rapidly and superseded my expectations. I think the tools I used to grow my platforms was the engagement strategy, where you genuinely find other like-minded content creators that’s in your niche and support their content and in term, they support yours.
Additionally, consistency in IG reels, quality and looking at content from a perspective of what can I offer, educate, teach or entertain my audience with, what can they take away from me when viewing my content? These were the key elements, aspects and foundation that provided exponential growth for my social media.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
That’s a great question, I hinted at it a little earlier, haha! My ultimate goal is to have my own successful tv show like an Atlanta or Insecure and my own successful animate/Anime series like The Boondocks or Naruto. Additionally, to have a franchise film and a production company that houses all of my creations, projects and more.
The big goal again, is to create opportunities for my people and communities of color and that is what drives me every day. There is power in creating your own table as I feel that what you can create, no one can take away from you and this is what fuels my passion and my desire within my creative journey.
