We recently connected with La’Perria Harvin and have shared our conversation below.
La’Perria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned what I know from many places. Initially and most of my foundation I learned from my parents. Starting with character building, people skills and having my own sense of direction; my first lessons were from them. Also my community growing up had a huge effect on me. Lastly my friends and homies. Being contemporaries with these people is a great honor. I went on to study at Temple University earning my Bachelors of Film and Media Arts. After graduating and over the course of my career I’ve learned from various sources including; my peers at NPR, the team at The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences and lastly the community at Smith Park Playground in South Philadelphia.
Knowing what I know know, to speed up my learning process I would have asked more questions then applied what I learned faster. Basically more “trial and error” to learn more about the lessons.
I believe the most important skills are listening, patiences and discernment.
Racial inequality and ill conceived assumptions were a few obstacles.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the production industry first through film. Film for me is a beautiful combination of many different arts to convey feelings. Starting with film I’ve since produced books of photography and poetry, photo shoots, NFTs, music, music videos, apparel, personal development workshops and events of all types.

Any advice for managing a team?
First I would change the language from “managing” to “leading” a team. Next I would suggest reading the book “The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork by John C Maxwell. To maintain a high morale, well start with these two and go from there. The morale will change from low to high or from high to higher when teamwork is looked at through the lens of these this book.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Books: The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork” and “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” both written by John C Maxwell. “Finding Me”by Viola Davis. “This is Marketing” by Seth Godin. “The Sleep Revolution” by Arianna Huffington.
