Alright, Lani McMahan and Ciera Baker thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
When it came to our business name, we wanted something that made sense for what we were selling and something that was personal to us both. We are both firm believers in names having meanings so we were excited to nail down our business name as Heavenly Bakes! Not only does this name describe our delectable treats, but it’s a part of our names in a mixture that just makes sense to us! The owners of Heavenly Bakes are Lani McMahan and Ciera Baker; Lani meaning Heavenly in Hawaiian and Ciera’s last name being Baker, it was a perfect pairing!

Heavenly Bakes was started in March of 2017. What first began as a simple hobby of baking for loved ones, quickly turned into a successful small business that is growing everyday! Owners and creators, Lani and Ciera, have been best friends for over 20 years. With seven kids between them, full time jobs to juggle, sports to keep up with, on top of their small business, things are non-stop in their worlds and they wouldn’t have it any other way! Heavenly Bakes is a cottage bakery based in Delaware, OH that offers all custom, made to order, goods. Lani creates the cakes and specializes in buttercream creations including cupcakes, macarons, cake pops, and more yummy treats. Ciera is the cookier who excels in creating beautiful (edible) works of art on her delicious cut out cookies with royal icing. As a pair, this duo is unstoppable in what they can create and love to experiment with the skills they have, while also keeping up with the current cake and cookie trends!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I (Lani) met my business partner, Ciera, on the first day of our freshman year of highschool in choir class, over 20 years ago, and have been inseparable ever since. This chick isn’t just my best friend, but she’s my family and I couldn’t imagine life without her. Doing business with her is just another perk in our relationship and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth has really been our main “marketing” tool. We have the social medias and simple website, but truly have succeeded the most from our wonderful customer’s spreading the word of our goods and what we have to offer! We wouldn’t be where we are today without them!
