We were lucky to catch up with Lanchen Mihalic recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lanchen, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I’ve always been creating something but I do wish I would’ve stuck to one specific thing earlier. I’ve explored an extensive amount of hobbies in my time, and as fun as it was, committing to a particular creative pursuit sooner would only give me more experience..
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Lanchen, I’m a cosmic artist exploring the cosmos, one painting at a time.
From a young age I knew I wanted to create. Until the age of 18, I dabbled in an extensive amount of hobbies and after exploring many creative paths, I decided I wanted to be a Disney Imagineer. I am the biggest fan of all things Disney.
Since I couldn’t afford college, I looked up alternative ways to become an imagineer without a degree. After lots of research, I discovered many imagineers were scouted by Disney for their esoteric art.
From there I decided I needed to focus on a niche that I could create endless ideas around, giving birth to space art.
I grew up watching rocket launches in Florida and dreamed of becoming an astronaut. It’s safe to say, my love for space has been engrained in me since childhood so choosing space made sense.
While my dream of working for Disney, designing futuristic, dystopian worlds hasn’t come true yet, I am so happy that decision got me to where I am today, creating space art.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In a world full of massed produced items, one of the easiest things you can do is shop small when you can. If shopping small isn’t an option for you, the next best thing is to like, comment or share a creatives work. This may seem small but it can go a long way.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to be a Disney imagineer, creating large scale, tangible space themed art for larger audience to experience. I also plan to make my childhood dream of becoming an astronaut a reality too.
