We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lance Essihos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lance below.
Lance, appreciate you joining us today. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
Starting and launching my podcast – University of Adversity was the most innovative move I made.
It has opened up every door, and opportunity I have in my life. From building an incredible network, brand exposure, and what sparked the inspiration for my book. The healing and personal growth I have recieved from interviewing Ny Times best selling authors, celebrities, pro athletes, spiritual masters, doctors and scientists would be possible with me thinking big and making this happen.
Lance, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Lance Essihos, a Canada native and world traveler, has made it his life’s mission to help heal the world through the art of powerful storytelling and human connection. He is the host of the top-rated podcast University of Adversity, motivating hundreds of thousands of listeners to turn their darkest days into their greatest motivators. He has interviewed over 350 renowned people all over the globe, including world-class entrepreneurs, pro athletes, celebrities, doctors, spiritual masters, and the common heroes among us. Lance is the Founder of Mic-Up Media, an agency that helps founders and visionary leaders grow their businesses, brands, and networks through podcasting and storytelling.
My book description:
After losing his chance of becoming a professional hockey player, Lance found himself in the midst of an identity crisis. Directionless and bereft of his dream, Lance spent many years searching for his purpose in the world, drawn to the night-life industry fulfilling his craving for adventure and the hedonism that comes with a bad-boy lifestyle. Death and despair shortly followed and it was time to pour this pain into something more purposeful.
After decades of heartbreak, loss of loved ones, and numerous business failures, Lance was able to uncover the behavioural patterns that arise in hard times. These experiences led to Lance’s life’s mission of helping the world alchemize their rock bottom into personal power. Through his own personal development journey working with countless healers, experts, and leaders in the field of adversity and personal struggle, Lance has discovered the greatest tool to get you to the other side of your darkest moments: Becoming the Warrior.
Mastering Adversity delivers a powerful, raw, tactical message of hope: anyone can shift their perspective of adversity, given the right tools. Lance provides practical resources and relatable insights paired with his own stories of struggle and success. This book delivers reassurance to anyone experiencing a crisis that what they are going through is never in vain. Readers will see aspects of themselves in all of the Adversity Archetypes, and through Lance’s framework will be able to unlock and embody the true warrior spirit in every area of their daily lives.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
For me it has always been about being in truth and authenticity the best I can. I think the reason people gravitate towards me is because I am not afraid to share the honest truths about my story and I have been incredibly vulnerable. I believe people are seeking true authenticity in people, and when someone sees someone showing up in a place of rawness, truth, and authenticity, it gives others permission t show up like that themselves. I believe that I have been honest with my followers and I think that is why I have built the reputation I have. I have been told that people feel like I’m speaking directly to them so that to me is a sign I am on the right path. I also am very careful in how I word the way I speak, and do my very best to come from a place of love Vs. Fear. I want to to discuss difficult things but also want to leave people feeling inspired, and ready to take action Vs deflated and stuck in the problem.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to inspire people to think differently when it comes to their personal limitations. We all go through challenges in life and I believe how we see that challenge/Adversity is all determined by how we look threw the lens of life. The stories of the past that we tell ourselves, the trauma, or anything else we have experienced, cause that lens to get foggy, and my goal is to help them see through that lense clearler.
I also believe that our intuition is always guiding us and it is part of our innate inner wisdom… this shows up as inspiration, or ideas that are aligned with our truest potential. But the foggyness of the lense on how we see life and how we feel into our intuition, becomes distorted the more adversity and hardships we have been through, which makes it a lot more difficult to tune into that frequency of truth in our heart/ our intuition and connect with and remember why we are here and connect with our greatest potential.
My mission is to help people heal those stories, those traumas, or whatever else they have been through so that they are able to see and feel a clearer signal along to their intuition which will be the guiding force that will help them connect to their truest potential and essence. And help them with using the intuition to make better decisions, even if that means choosing adversity in the moment to avoid adversity long term Vs avoiding adversity (difficult decisions) which will indirectly bring adversity later.
The clearer we are connected to our intuition the clearer purposeful path we will create to our greatest good and potential.
So by me showing up exactly as I am as the truest expression my hopes are that it will give others permission to do the same and start making one step in a new direction. This awareness is to starting the process as I discuss in my book.
