Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lanada Chanel Duncan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lanada Chanel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
I love to take vacations as often as I can. I recently went to Paris to celebrate my husband’s birthday. It was my first time in France and I absolutely loved Paris. In addition to visiting some of the greatest wonders of the world, I spent time in awe of the amazing architectural designs and decor throughout the places we had the pleasure of visiting there. It was completely magical to see and experience.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started my interior design firm almost 7 years ago, but was only able to take on small projects since I worked a full-time job. That changed in 2021 when like many others, the company I worked for decided to downsize, and I was laid off. I chose not to return to corporate america, but plant myself full-time into growing my business. I am so glad I did because I found a joy I for so many years had to surpress become I was working for someone else. Now as a woman entreprenuer, I smile every time I set day-time appointments with clients and attend design industry events I wasn’t able to attend before because I had to work. I use the extra time now to groom a schedule that allows me to focus on and grow client and business relationships, and do personal development as a business owner in the interior design industry. I can also now take on larger design projects and offer clients more home styling services – I wasn’t able to do that before, and I’m creating my own line of home and lifestyle products that I sell through my website, bedecors.com.
Since b.e. decors Interiors is a brand that creates wellness living experiences through design and decor, we have been better able to help clients eliminate stress from their lives by providing more exceptional design services that really help them have more enjoyable, and many times healthier life experiences in their homes. I am most proud of this and really look forward to getting more client feedback about our services in this way.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I am a strong believer of brand building and understand how that is reflected by consistently showing up to my audiences, all of them inlcuded. I mostly operate in the idea that my life is my brand. I work to create a home, grow and business and enjoy a lifestyle the same way many of my clients do. I have the same desire for a certain quality of life and this is reflected in how we operate at b.e. decors Interiors. From our newsletter to social media content and business relationships, we present what we mostly value which is classic quality and wellness living. This includes things like family activities, traveling, enjoying time with close friends, entertaining, and most importantly practicing self-care and creating home and living spaces that excude the idea of comfort, tranquility, cozy living and colorful style. If nothing else, I want us to be known for that, because that’s who we are and what we stand for.
I see others (colleagues and clients) beginning to take note of this as they become more familiar with our brand. It’s a growing process and I’m here for it.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A few years ago I started experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. Alot of it resulted from my work and a couple of things going on in my personal life. But the experience has taught me the importance of creating environments that allow me to be independently free in the moment to feel good about myself and my purpose in life. Now that I know and better understand the root of the anxiety, I am learning to channel the negative energy into creating more positive opportunities for me to grow and excel in my personal life and business. I’m not always going to be and feel comfortable in a situation, but I know how to say “no” and decline things that don’t feel right, and I don’t waste time on areas or in places that don’t serve me or my business well or allow me to be productive and focused. It’s important for me to end each day knowing I’ve done the best I can, and all I can for that day. I just don’t stress myself with things beyond my control.
