Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lana Electra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lana , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk I’ve taken in life thus far is starting drag. After going through months of heart issues and no answers- I knew now is a better time than ever to live life to the fullest. I knew if it got to the point where I wouldn’t be able to do drag- and never tried it, I would’ve been disappointed in myself. Now, almost a year into my drag career, I keep taking risks. Yet another risk that paid off- I have my own drag show produced by ME!! It was a risk that it won’t work, that nobody will show up, but the shows have been so successful creating conversation.
Lana , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a drag queen who performs at bars and clubs all over Oregon. I’ve performed all the way from Portland to Eugene. My inspirations are horror movies, and 90’s to 2000’s glam girls. I bring gothic beauty and punk goodness to each show.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of what I do is the success- and the love that I receive. Growing up being gay you aren’t always praised for being openly queer. Being in drag I am showered with love, and appreciated for what I do.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn after becoming a drag artist is that not everything needs flips and tricks. Going into drag it makes you feel like to be successful you need to do splits and death drops every other second. Embodying the meaning of songs and adding your own personality to them is what really matters. I always say, people don’t go to see Beyoncé for a back flip and a death drop.
