We recently connected with LaMia Pierce and have shared our conversation below.
LaMia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Oftentimes we stumble through life trying to find our purpose without realizing that our purpose is within and in our hands. I believe this outer quest is based on uncertainty because we are unsure of where the next step will lead us. For years I lived with that uncertainty, I was a woman with words bubbling inside of me, yearning to be released but I could not release those words beyond the pages of a journal. Fear held me back! I never thought about becoming a writer, yet it has been the one thing that I’ve been doing since I learned to write. Somewhere in the back of my mind I questioned how being a “writer” could be my purpose. The idea of becoming a writer, much less a published author was too risky. By putting my written work out into the atmosphere and in the hands of the public I felt I was risking rejection, embarrassment, judgement-I was also risking my identity and my passion. Still, there comes a time when I just had to ask myself, is the risk worth it if it will allow me to gain my voice and to set myself as well as others free? I realized that the things that we cling to out of fear eventually become prisons in disguise, I was tired of being locked in an unlocked cage. It was that I made the choice to step out on my own, to step out on faith as an artist and take the risk of becoming an indie self-published author.
Without a major book deal or a team of experts guiding me, I am forced to wear many hats; writer, editor, marketer, designer. Self-publishing for me meant there was no one telling me I wasn’t good enough, but it also means there was no one guaranteeing my success. I invest time, money and energy into learning the ins and outs this industry, all while battling that nagging voice that keeps whispering to me, what if this isn’t your purpose? What if you never get a major book deal?
Knowing that this path and the road to success as an Indie author is paved with uncertainty. I am always questioning my decision to pursue writing as a career. The only thing that keeps me going is my desire to write until I am emptied and healed and the readers who reach out sharing how my words have touched their lives. How my stories mirrored their own experiences of healing and transformation. Their words are my affirmations and strength to keep going. I might not have gotten published by a big publishing house but knowing that my words, my work resonates with real people in ways that I could have never imagined it makes it worth the risk to keep sharing my truths with raw authenticity, I remind myself when I get discouraged that success isn’t measured by numbers or validation from the mainstream. Sometimes success is found in the freedom to express yourself in your own terms and the courage to keep going, even when the odds appear to be stacked against you, I’m still om this journey, but each step I take as an indie author brings me closer to the realization that the greatest risk of all would have been not to bet on myself.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is LaMia Michele, and I am an indie author, writer, and creator with a deep passion for storytelling, self-discovery, and personal transformation. My journey into writing and creating was inspired by my own healing process. As someone who has faced the challenges of trauma, failed relationships, and low self-esteem, I found solace in words. Writing became my sanctuary—a place where I could express the rawness of my emotions and, in doing so, heal.
Through this process, I developed a deep connection with intuitive writing, which I now use to help others. I offer coaching programs for women who want to write and author their stories, particularly those who are healing from childhood traumas, failed marriages, grief, and other life experiences that have shaped their journey. My signature coaching program, Voices of Victory: A Healing Words Collective, guides women through intuitive and heart-centered writing to not only craft their stories but to use writing as a tool for personal liberation and empowerment.
Beyond writing, I am also a creator of affirmation cards, self-care and self-love journals, and various stationery products. These items are more than just tools—they’re a way to help people reconnect with themselves, reframe their narratives, and embrace a mindset of self-love and transformation. My affirmation cards and journals are designed with deep intention to serve as daily reminders of one’s inner strength, purpose, and ability to overcome challenges.
What sets me apart in this space is my ability to fuse creativity, spirituality, and personal growth into everything I create. My background and personal experiences shape the essence of my work, and I believe this authenticity resonates deeply with my audience. My clients and followers often tell me that they feel seen, understood, and guided through the content I provide, whether that’s through my books, my writing programs, or my physical creations.
I am most proud of the impact my work has on the lives of women who have felt silenced, overlooked, or burdened by life’s challenges. When I see a woman reclaim her voice, her power, and her story, it’s a reminder of why I do what I do. My own healing journey is mirrored in the journey of those I coach and create for. There’s something deeply fulfilling about creating products and programs that empower people to become their own refuge, their own source of safety and strength.
The main thing I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know is that my brand and work are centered on authenticity, empowerment, and transformation. Whether you’re looking to write from the heart, heal from life’s wounds, or simply find daily inspiration through my affirmation cards and journals, everything I create is designed to serve as a reminder that your voice, your truth, and your story matter.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the ability to transform my personal experiences into something that can touch and inspire others. There’s something incredibly powerful about taking moments of vulnerability, pain, or joy, and crafting them into stories, affirmation cards, journals, or even a simple sentence that resonates with someone else’s soul.
One of the greatest rewards is witnessing how my work can be a source of healing, comfort, or motivation for others. When someone tells me that my writing helped them find their voice, or that my affirmation cards gave them strength on a difficult day, it reminds me of the deeper purpose behind what I do. As a creative, I feel like I’m constantly weaving connections between my own journey and the journeys of those I create for—whether through my books, coaching programs, or stationery products.
Another aspect I cherish is the freedom of expression. As an indie author and creator, I have the space to follow my intuition, to write and create from the heart without constraints. This freedom allows me to evolve continuously as an artist, to explore new ideas, and to share them authentically with my audience. There’s immense fulfillment in knowing that the work I put into the world is a reflection of my true self and that it helps others on their own path of self-discovery and healing.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think one of the biggest things non-creatives may struggle to understand about the journey as a creative is the deep emotional and personal investment that goes into the work. For me, being a writer and creator isn’t just about producing something beautiful or marketable; it’s about sharing pieces of my soul. Every story, journal, or affirmation card I create carries a part of my own healing process, my struggles, my victories, and my most vulnerable truths.
Non-creatives may not always grasp how much mental and emotional energy goes into this kind of work, especially when it comes to staying authentic and true to one’s voice. Creativity is often born from a place of deep introspection and self-awareness. It’s not always about inspiration striking—it’s about being willing to confront the messy, uncomfortable parts of life and translating that into something meaningful for others.
There’s also the misconception that creativity is easy or effortless. People may see the final product—a book, a beautifully designed journal, or a collection of affirmation cards—and not realize the countless hours of thought, revision, and even self-doubt that went into creating it. The creative process can be a rollercoaster of emotions, with moments of immense joy and fulfillment but also times when nothing seems to flow, and doubt starts creeping in.
One thing I’ve learned is that creativity, at its core, is a journey of self-discovery. It’s not about just making things; it’s about constantly evolving, pushing boundaries, and being willing to share the most intimate parts of yourself with the world. I think the greatest insight I can offer is this: creativity is not a straight path. It’s filled with ups and downs, but it’s those moments of struggle, reflection, and perseverance that make the final product worth it—not just for me, but for those who are impacted by my work.
