We were lucky to catch up with Lamar Pullom recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lamar, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always found joy in making people’s hearts smile. I love laughter.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m comedian Lamar “LP” Pullom from Tuscaloosa, AL. I’ve been doing stand up comedy for 8 years now. I pursued my career in comedy back in 2015 at the Comedy Club Stardome in Hoover, AL. I host several events comedy shows, gender reveals, school events, family reunions, etc. The most important thing I’m proud of is my consistency and elevation in my career each year. My goal is to become a household name & be on a major tour.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Allow comedians to have freedom of speech. In today’s society I feel like entertainers have to walk on eggshells per say just to get their point across when it shouldn’t be that way. If you understand that’s it’s entertainment then it should be self explanatory.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started my career, I was telling jokes based off what I felt like folks wanted to hear versus being me and speaking my truth. Once I realized that’s all about what you put into your career and no one is going to hold you back but you. I put my foot on the gas and haven’t looked back since.
