We were lucky to catch up with Lamar Carter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lamar, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
So I know you’re not supposed to start things off with so but lol. I would say that’s something I had to overcome. In the past for five years I overcame that feeling cause sometimes I wish I did start early because I always wanted to be in the realm of the arts. Rather be music modeling, drawing painting anything of that creative field is something that I dream of being in. I love creating, I love being inspired and motivated by other’s creativity. I love how beautiful life is. We draw so much inspiration from life. Our experiences rather good or bad it’s a necessity to breathe our ideas to tangible form. In my late teens early 20s I was so friend dependent that if my friends wasn’t with it, I wouldn’t do it. It took me a very long time to Stand on my own two, and just go out there and enjoy my space, my time, and go after my interest things. Go after everything I always wanted. No fear no doubt no judgment on the things I enjoy. I was 22, 23 is when the ball start rolling for all of that. I do wish I can go back but everything is about timing. One of my really good friends Mel Shout out to my madre. She told me that I had to stop calling myself a late bloomer. It’s the feeling of “that took me fuckin forever”. She said no, you’re right on time and that altered my perspective & made me feel better. Made things make way more sense. I realize the older I’ve gotten the better I am at doing things. The way I understand approach and handle my passions feel freer and less press. You know taking that information regurgitating & applying in certain things like that. plus I have a different gravity about me that no one’s like me and that’s the same for other people. I’m not like them either, but I know what separates me from other people. that’s not a ego thing talking or anything of the sort is more so of being OK and loving myself and going out there being unapologetically doing what I wanna do like I don’t give a Fuck. That if you don’t understand me, the space I’m occupying and going after my dreams & goals . It’s not my job to make you understand at all. I am ok with that too. It took alot of reflections and overcoming my own self to get here. I love myself and I love it here. I want people to feel how I feel and that’s amazing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always modeled. I start modeling around 2015. Took a break from it then started it again in 2017 took a break from it again it started back around 2020 did a little things from here or there I would say in 2023 when I start taking it way more serious. Now in 2024 of going full steam with it I’m starting to see the fruits of my labor. Meeting new people, meeting people in the industry, working with new photographers, new creative directors people who have been doing it way longer. The people I’ve met give me tips. Coaching me about how to walking on the runway. New poses, how to use my facial expressions better so it’s been fun. It’s been a joy. It’s been amazing and I love it. I’m falling in love with it all over again and the best part is is giving me More things to put in my music. because I feel like it was getting stale for a while. What brings me or set me apart is how I communicate with people. I bring calmness & ease which is great for team morality. I want everyone feel how I feel and I feel fn amazing lol. When I’m around people I don’t want them to feel nervous. We’re here to have a good time & Have fun and go do what we do best. This is what we do best right?! so let’s go do it!! I want everyone around me to succeed. Seeing people that I know win is a beautiful feeling. I love & like people. I can say people enjoy being around me. Everything is a learning experience. Each one teach one & you have to teach whats been taught so it’s been incredible. I’m proud of the brand my brother and I are working on. It’s called GODBLESSKHAN. He’s the architect of it and I’m the first brand ambassador. Keep your eyes out on us. I love being a vessel for others art. If I can help bring someone’s vision to life in anyway it’s a win for me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s the freedom of endless expression. The more you learn see and experience the more you grow & evolve. Isn’t that the fun part about Art, it’s never wrong. It’s a reflection and memory of who we are or were at a point.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Give people a chance without looking down or denying them. Be more supportive and empathetic from an artist standpoint.
