We were lucky to catch up with Lakysha Hampton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lakysha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
The kindness thing that has happened to me was my yoga teacher Mrs. Deva Parnell blessing me with my yoga teacher training certification. It was September 13, 2019. I had enrolled myself into yoga teacher training at Discovery yoga in St Augustine Fl. When I enrolled myself I was very hesitant. In my mind I was already preparing to pursue the yoga program however I just didn’t know it was going to happen so fast. When I went to do my research on which yoga training program I wanted to take I had misread the dates of when the program was starting. So when I went to go visit the school and I spoke with Scott who is a another yoga teacher there . He told me that they would be starting in the next couple of weeks. My heart dropped because in my notes they weren’t starting until that following year. I felt caught off guard for sure ! And honestly I wasn’t prepared to start in the next couple of weeks. That wasn’t the plan that I had mapped out for myself. Then as I was talking to Scott and explained my situation I remember him telling me “sometimes you have to catch a wave and ride it out .” When he said that I knew that it was god speaking through him to me. The spirit moves in mysterious ways. After my tour with the school I went home and me and my husband immediately started talking about how we could financially make this work. The biggest thing that we were worried about was how we could pay for tuition. The next day I called Scott back and I told him that I had decided to enroll in the yoga teacher training class . Even though we had a plan to make this work I wasn’t for sure that it was going to work. However I was willing to try. At first everything was going well. I was enjoying the journey, learning so many things about yoga that I didn’t even know about. My body was changing, my mind had more clarity and I just felt so happy that I had took this opportunity. And then a financial shift happened. Which caused us to have to come up with another plan . As much as I didn’t want to and my husband’s didn’t want me to I had decided that I was going to take a break in the program so that we could focus on what we needed to get done in our household. I sent an email to Mrs. Deva explaining to her the decision that I had to make about taking a break from the program due to my situation. The next day Mrs Deva wrote me back and told me that she could give me a discount towards my tuition so I wouldn’t have to leave the program. I was shocked! Nobody but god ! I was so grateful and honored that she would do this for me . So I continue on with the program. We had a couple of months left with teacher training . I was excited for this day to come . Then all of a sudden another shift had happened. Covid was born. I felt like I couldn’t catch a break. With the whole world being on shut down I was worried about how I was going to provide for my family and I was worried how I was going to pay my last payment for my training. I reached out to Mrs. Deva to see if we could work out a plan for me so that I could finish the program. Her response to me was , Don’t worry we will figure this out. During the remaining of my training I did some classes online. And some were at a classmates house practicing social distance. Mrs Deva not once asked anymore about the remaining balance that I needed to pay. I finally had completed my teacher training. At my graduation I share my story on how Mrs. Deva had blessed through the training. After me sharing my story I remember Mrs. Deva saying “now you have to pay it forward .”This is another reason why I teach . To pay it forward! Thank you Mrs Deva

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is lakysha Hampton. I am the business owner of A Touch of Luv&Peace Wellness LLC . Where you can feel the Luv&Peace through touch. As a child I have always felt a strong connection with spirit. I was drawn to things like dream catchers, rabbit foot and of course everyone knows about the magic 8 ball that you could ask any question you wanted and it would reveal the answer. Who knew that I would have a whole business that is surrounded by spirit. I grew up as an Air Force brat. I was born in lakenheath, England. I have lived in California, Fort Walton Beach Fl, Hawaii and Arkansas . My dad ended up retiring over in Pisa , Italy. So I got to travel to Italy to see my parents. I lived in Ocala ,Fl for a couple of years and then I relocated myself and my daughter to Jacksonville, Fl.. Where A Touch of Luv&Peace was born and created. Before I was able to start my business I worked at a couple of different spas, Hand&Stone Massage in Clermont Fl, Ponte Verda Inn spa and Massage Envy. I actually still work part time at Massage Envy. I have been working at Massage Envy for 11 years now. I started off as a massage therapist. Then I went back to school to get my license to become an esthetician With me having both licenses as a massage therapist and esthetician. I was now a dual therapist. Later on I ended up getting promoted to lead esthetician/massage therapist. In 2019 , I decided to take a 200hr yoga teacher training to become a yoga teacher. Juggling work, training, being a wife and a new mommy again. The struggle was real! Remember though there’s beauty in the struggle. In the begining of 2020 I decied to open my business. A Touch of Luv&Peace Wellness. I started off mobile . With Covid being introduce to the world and where I was in my life, I knew my clientele would be small. I also knew that this was only temporary . In June 2020, I completed my yoga teacher training. I stared teaching at San Marco Power yoga Studo. Everything was very slow motion because of covid. There were times when I had no students come to class. I still took that time to practice yoga .With the world opening back up from covid things were still moving slow. However I still press through and made it out of 2020 still alive. In 2021 life started to move in a better direction. Working part time on my own , part time at Massage Envy , teaching yoga and being there for my family. I had found balance to make my dreams come true. In April 2021, I had an opportunity come my way. I found a location for my business. I took a leap out on faith and took this opportunity to open up an actual location for my business. How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am actually in a pivot moment now. With my life shifting with my family, business and myself. I had to take a step back and reevaluate some things. I’m so grateful for all the things that are happening in my life. Business and personal. However the spirit has been talking to me for quite a while. And to be honest I haven’t been truly listening. I have been wanting to focus more on doing wellness events , retreats and also my 300hr teacher training. The question that I was always asking myself was when would it be a good time to start working and creating. Not to mention I was definitely afraid to let go of what I had already started. Because of me not listening to the signs that were there, I ended up overworking myself. My body shut down on me I ended up getting really sick. I had a mental breakdown that cause me to be rush to the hospital. My body was tired. Mentally, physically and spiritually. I was barely getting sleep because I had too much on my plate. The spirit was trying to shift me into the season of me working on my new journey. Because of my fear and also not listening . I caused more suffering on myself. After this incident happened that’s when I let go of my fears and worries. I had totally surrender to spirit. In the beginning on October this year. I sent out emails, text messages to my clients and created a reel for my social media to let them know that we are now in a phase of rebranding A Touch of Luv&Peace wellness. We are now a mobile business. Same mission, same services. We now have created space to start working on the next chapter of A Touch of Luv&Peace wellness. And I’m ready !

How did you build your audience on social media?
This is still a working process for me . I’m grateful for my followers. However I still struggle with social media. The biggest thing I like my followers to see is how I balance my business and personal life together. Your business is more than your services and your clients. I want them to see there’s so much more to running a business. So I try not to just on posting me doing services . I want my followers to see behind the scenes of running a business . I want them to feel connected to the growth of business and personal growth. The one advice I would give for those just starting to build social media. Remember to stay true to the message behind each post, video or reel. The message is for you first and then your followers.
