We were lucky to catch up with Lakita Gordon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lakita, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My youngest nephew, Evin, had Eczema really bad and the doctors kept prescribing creams that didn’t work. I saw that it bothered his confidence and he didn’t want to wear shorts and clothes that revealed the massive eczema rashes he had. My heart hurt to see him scratching all of the time and not having any relief. So, I started asking myself what our ancestors used before they had access to doctors and what all-natural things from the earth that I could use to help to soothe him. I researched for months and then got in the kitchen and started mixing oils and butters that I thought would help, and I’m so grateful that it worked! IT REALLY WORKED!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is LaKita Gordon and I am a licensed Esthetician in the state of Florida. Skin is one of my passions and once I saw my nephew suffering from severe Eczema, I got with my twin sister, NaKita Woods, and told her that I wanted to come up with something that could possibly help him. I help people to build confidence in their skin by creating all-natural skincare products that aren’t filled with artificial colors and fragrances.
I am into self-care and my company is called Git Sum! My goal is to help people to heal their skin and to Git the Sum total of things that bring you better health and more wealth! That looks different for everyone. One of my gifts is that I have a way of motivating people to want to do better in many areas such as fitness and skincare.
Once I learned that my all-natural body butters were improving and healing eczema, I decided to market them and I got testimonials of how my products are the ONLY thing that worked for cancer patients going through Chemotherapy and for patients who are on dialysis, also people who suffer from psoriasis and rosacea.
What I do want people to know is that my products have improved and/or healed MANY MANY people’s skin and I share testimonials that have been given to me.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I never over promise! I don’t sell, I serve! I LOVE people and I spend time cultivating relationships instead of trying to sell a product. My products speak for themselves and I’m very confident in that. Each person’s skin is different and my products are handmade with love and for all skin types.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Once I got to study skin and I became a licensed Esthetician, I had to unlearn that everyone’s skin is different and what we put into our bodies causes our skin to react different ways. Environmental factors, age, exposure to sun, hormones and so many things affect our skin. And the most important thing that I had to unlearn is that all-natural products may not be suitable for everyone, and I had to be ok with that.
