We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lakisha Rousseve . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lakisha below.
Hi Lakisha , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The Rise of Leadership: Path to Identity is a creative documentary that helps others walk in their God given identity. The documentary speaks about family, community and the church using the analogy of the eagle, ox and lion. The documentary gives an image of a path to leadership that starts in the dark but if we keep going or pursuing we will see the light. It ends with Jesus on the cross and the brutal beating and how God used it for his Glory.

Lakisha , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
ROC, Inc got started with I and my family doing a bon fire in the back yard which extended out to the block and ultimately extended to the community in 2014. From 2014 -2019 we did bon fires for the community. We partnered with other community businesses and organizations and provided food and a fireworks show. The bon fires were a work of art making the news on local channels yearly and a social media huge liking. 2019 we were instructed by the Lord to do the paperwork to make it a nonprofit and from there we started doing monthly meetings with the youth. We mentored them and then we hosted a youth conference after a devastating hurricane impacted our community, hurricane Ida. The conference included General Russell Honoreé who is know as an advisor for many leaders and even presidents regarding storms, Collis Temple III who’s an ex basketball player who pivoted into a successful business man and Dr. Michael Smith whose a renown Church leader. They all donated their time and energy to help rebuild the community and bring about a resilience to the community with a focus on the youth and the next generation of leaders. I, Lakisha Rousseve. and creator have several books I’ve written and collaborated on, The love of God, Changes Hearts: Emily Overcomes Unforgiveness which is a children’s book, and I am a collaborator on Dream Bigger which is a best seller and international best seller book which was coordinated by Dr. Kishma George. I am a speaker and International speaker mounting platforms in the Virgin Islands, as well as London and this year mounting the platform to speak in various states in the US which include Paris and Malawi, Africa. My website is lakisharousseve.com. Maurice Rousseve, Jr. Is the cofounder with Lakisha Rousseve and he is a community businessman. We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
ROC, Inc in founded on a solid foundation which is the principals of God. Which is a reflection of my families life. No matter the ethnicity, culture or beliefs of individuals we all experience life trials and if our foundation isn’t steady we can find ourselves growing under the trials instead of growing from the trials, hence we get generational trauma. Our goal and mission at ROC, Inc is to provide tools to help prevent long term trauma effects or provide remedies or solutions to those who need help overcoming. The ultimate goal is for individuals and families to triumph in what we call life.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Creativity is imagination or thoughts that have been worked out loud so we see it. We can work art with our hands in creating books, art, clothes, stage shows we also can dance as a form of art and etc. It’s a free flowing and beautiful gift when it’s authentic. Creativity in the right environment is worth a lot. The value of a creative gift can bring joy to another or shift another’s life if someone find value in the gift, but in the wrong environment it’s seen as worthless. So I would say the best thing for society to do is allow individuals to grow and blossom authentically in their uniqueness including parents. Just because the world hasn’t seen it before doesn’t mean it’s not so.
