We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful LaKisha Mosley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with LaKisha below.
Alright, LaKisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
Covid forced my company totally online. There were no in-person events allowed at that time but clients still wanted to have events. We had to pivot quickly to meet the clients’ needs. We went to online meetings and had to learn all of the tech stuff for the online platforms.
We had to create packages for our online services. I love that we were able to build new relationships with a lot of people in the industry.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner of The LM Experience, an event planning and management firm that now offers event coaching. I’m known for creating stunning, refreshing, and fun online experiences that specialized in engaging your audience. I’m a 10-year veteran in the event industry but I’m transitioning into coaching, consulting, and course creation where I will be teaching those interested in hosting their own online experiences.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Managing a team is difficult sometimes as on owner. There different attitudes and personalities that you have to deal with. Your leadership style has to compliment all the attitudes and personalities. One of the things I love to do is check in with my team. We have weekly meetings and the first question is a mental health check. I want to know how they are doing. If there is a problem, I would like to know so I can help if I can. Their wellbeing is important to me. They can’t be at their best if they are not good.
I like to treat them to lunch and small gifts. I also value their opinion on some aspects of the business. I want them to know their voice matters so they can take ownership. Acknowledging them and the work they do means a lot. I think providing constructive feedback for improvement is good too.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
