We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lakisha Gaines. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with LaKisha below.
Hi LaKisha, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
For me to be successful in my business, it takes a clear vision, goals, and resilience. I have to know exactly what I want to achieve the foundation of my business to be successful. By me keeping a clear vision it provides direction and keeps me focused when challenges arise. To overcome setbacks is a big part of my story. I have to learn how to come back from failure, learned mistakes, and moving forward after those mistakes are made.
House calls was a major part of my business when I first started out as massage therapist. I went from house calls to brick and mortar. I am literally starting all of again. I now have to build that up with getting new clients and getting the word out about my business. Writing out a new business plan, networking, and having a passion for what I do is driving the force to build up my new business.

LaKisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a licensed massage therapist with over two decades of experience, and I’ve spent much of my career honing a broad range of skills to cater to various client needs. My passion for massage therapy began when I realized the profound impact that touch and therapeutic techniques could have on the body and mind. I’ve always been drawn to the holistic aspects of health and wellness, and massage became a natural fit for me. Over the years, I expanded my expertise to include Swedish massage, deep tissue, sports massage, stretching therapy, neuromuscular therapy, cryotherapy, and spa treatments, among other modalities.
In addition to my background in massage therapy, I am also a Pilates instructor and a spin instructor. These roles have deepened my understanding of body mechanics and injury prevention, allowing me to integrate fitness principles into my massage work. What sets me apart is my personalized approach to each client’s care. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all method when it comes to massage; instead, I tailor each session based on the client’s physical condition, needs, and goals. Whether it’s helping athletes recover from injuries, reducing stress for busy professionals, or improving mobility and flexibility for clients seeking a healthier lifestyle, my focus is always on bringing tangible results.
One thing that I believe distinguishes me from others in the industry is my dedication to continuous learning. My love for expanding my knowledge in areas like cryotherapy and neuromuscular therapy has allowed me to provide cutting-edge treatments. I’m always looking for ways to incorporate new techniques and tools to give my clients the best possible experience.
I’m especially proud of my entrepreneurial journey. I started my own business in Roswell, GA, where I’ve been able to create a space for not only individual treatments but also for couples massage. I offer mobile chair massage events around the Atlanta metro area, bringing wellness directly to corporate and community events. In the future, my goal is to expand by owning my own office space where I can lead a team of massage therapists, all while mentoring and educating others in the field. Eventually, I hope to create a massage curriculum and become an instructor, sharing my knowledge and passion with future massage therapists.
For those interested in my work, whether you’re a potential client or fellow massage therapist, I want you to know that my services are deeply client-focused. I’m here to solve your physical discomforts, alleviate stress, and help you achieve a better sense of well-being. My aim is to create an environment where you can not only feel relief but also learn more about your body and how it works. For fellow therapists, I’m committed to sharing my journey, insights, and techniques—whether through personal mentorship, my future e-book, or a teaching platform.
Ultimately, my brand is about delivering exceptional care through a combination of traditional and innovative methods, all while maintaining a personal touch.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was doing my internship in North Carolina with the Charlotte Bobcats whom are now the Charlotte Hornets. The massage rules changed and I didn’t know. I lost my license for six months. I got a job at FedEx until my license was restored.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth. Most of my growth from my businesses have come from word of mouth.
