We recently connected with Laketa Entzminger and have shared our conversation below.
Laketa, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Starting this business involved taking huge personal and financial risks. I prefer to work behind-the-scenes and keep to myself, but my business has forced me out of my comfort zone. Financially, I used my own funds. I was an elementary teacher and enrolled in herbalism classes, so this did not allow for a lot of spending outside of bills and other necessities. I felt, at the time though, it was now or never.
I was already making products for family and offering herbal consultations, so I decided to formally start a business doing just that. I made several products in addition to customized formulas for my herbal consultations. Today, my mission has leaned more towards providing education to children and families. Taking these risks has been worth it! Not only did I accomplish a childhood dream of writing and publishing a children’s book but seeing children excited about learning about herbalism genuinely makes my heart happy.

Laketa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the owner and founder of Lady K’s Herbal Solutions which empowers, educates, and equips families to use herbs for natural healing in their everyday lives. I have a passion for making herbalism simple enough for children to understand, so they can share with others and pass this knowledge on to future generations. I wrote I Am an Herbalist: Easy Herbal Recipes for Children to show how common kitchen ingredients can be used to help heal the body and provide an opportunity for families to create new healing habits together.
I started studying herbalism when it seemed I had no other options left. I was a new teacher who was sick all the time. Prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines were not working, so I tried the herbal route. I found medicinal herbs to be effective and powerful, yet gentle. I started sharing with family and friends what I was learning, and the rest is history!

Can you talk to us about how your funded your firm or practice?
I initially started out using my own funds to purchase items like labels, containers, and herbs. I purchased what I could afford, but I often over purchased items thinking I was going to be making all these products. I wasted a lot of money. Now I have a coach, Lady Ty the Great of GreaterU, who is absolutely amazing! She helps me to find ways to save money and work with what I have.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Dr. Myles Monroe offers wise insight into developing your purpose and positive life habits. His speech, The Secret to Becoming Mentally Strong, is a good one to check out.
